Default Please Help-Clunking in Drivetrain 2010 2WD Lariat 5.4

Hello, I have a 2010 F-150 Lariat 2 WD, 5.4l , ordered from Kansas City plant, took delivery 1-2-2010. Truck has Only 11,200 miles on it. It is still under the 5yr / 60K Drivetrain warranty until 1-1-2015 so time is of the top priority for getting this diagnosed and repaired.
The drive train has developed a clunk, after coming to a stop at a red
light etc, after releasing the brake and touching the gas pedal there is a clunk. This is getting worse and worse.
Any and all replies will be very much appreciated.
I want to have some idea what it might be before I go in to do battle with the dealer.
Also the Cam phaser tapping / clicking noise is driving me to distraction. Has anyone had this problem solved?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same phaser issue, from what Ive read Ill only be told its "normal". It sounds like a diesel in a parking garage/drive thru and noisy one at that.

The clunk is probably the standard drive line clunk you can read about all over the internet, something with the slip yoke needing grease, theres a TSB for it. Supposedly only a temp fix, as it will need to be regreased eventually.

I've read somewhere about cam phaser lock outs, basically gets rid of them all together and you end up surprisedly quiet. That'll be my next move after warranty and if I keep the truck.

Yes, between the cam phaser ticking so loud I can hear it cruising at 50MPH and the new clunking EVERY time I stop........driving my truck with ONLY 11K miles on it makes me wish for my old Chevy that with 251K miles on it was tighter and quieter..........point is, this should NOT be a damn issue where the service dept tells you it's NORMAL.
IF it is NORMAL, the damn truck should do it when you TEST DRIVE IT, BEFORE you hand them 40K dollars.

I agree 100%, I have a one piece drive shaft, still have the bump occasionally and was told they couldn't reproduce it and did nothing.

Have a really hard 1-2, 2-1 shift occasionally, same deal nothing done.

Cam phaser I can hear over the radio driving down the road.

Was originally purchased in Nov 2010, still under power train warranty til next November, was bought at 48,000km, currently 64,000km.

Already had to pull the door panels off both front doors and put dielectric grease on the speaker plugs as they were cutting out as well.

Not impressed, my first truck and first Ford. I believe I'll be sticking with the imports after this one. Although I would like to keep a truck and may just grease the yoke myself and install a grease nipple, install cam phasers lock outs and drive it into the ground after the warranties up. Hard to make a decision, just bought it a few months ago.

Yeah, in reality, these trucks and engines were basically unchanged from 2004 thru 2010. They had plenty of time to get it right.
What is the cam phaser " lock out " you speak of?
I bought a brand new 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2010 and was thinking about a 15.....but now I will base my decision depending on what they do to make the " problems " I have now go away.

This.

If you're mechanically inclined, it's not a bad job to drop the driveshaft and lube the splines, even easier on the one piece shafts.

Buy some full syn lithium grease and lube the splines well, should last awhile.

The Ford TSB I believe calls for lubricating it with tranny fluid and that's it.

The TSB has them repack it with grease and reinstall the boot. Not tranny fluid.

I know I could do it, but what if there is spline damage????? Should I have the dealership do it first? If I cut off the boot clamps, they will KNOW someone worked on it and may not warranty it. I only have 5-6 weeks before my five years is up. It totally sucks that I only have 11K miles on it.
