Apples-Apples, same engine, cab, 4x4 etc. only diff was 2012 Platinum can't get 3.73, can on Lariat. Loaded the Lariat, go do it before you tell someone they're wrong.
I just compared a Lariat and Platinum as well. The difference is that I really did load the Lariat up just like my 2011 and I really did look at comparable equipment in the Platinum just like I did when I began shopping the F150 build online last February.

Throw a pair of Amp Research power steps on the Lariat and there isn't much of a price difference. Its the same people audience, the same demographic.

So according to you the Platinum costs just a couple grand more and you get all the extra Platinum features...thanks for substantiating my decision & this should help the OP immensely!

You stated, "Platinums are about $4-5k difference."

And I stated that they were not.

You've already lost the argument.

According to the way you built them, the way I built them it was just over 4k diff...I'm over it dude go find someone else to argue with, I've got a fine Platinum F150 that needs driving :-)

I stated, "The Lariats and Platinums cost about the same [when] comparably equipped."

You challenged my claim and invited me to go to Ford's site and check build prices. And so I did just that and confirmed that you're wrong: there isn't a $4-5K price difference between the Lariats and Platinums as you claimed.

With this post I'll find out if you really are over it.

To be honest, it didn't hurt that I see 8-10 (or more) Lariats for every 1 Platinum on the road.
I see only a few platinums up in Ontario, many many Lariats, in fact all I really see is FX4's and Lariats with the occasional FX2. My XLT seems like a rare and custom machine to me!!

My 2¢

I have a feeling I will get flamed for saying that.
I agree with the descriptions above but have to say that I feel Platinum owners are more of the Escalade crowd than people that use their trucks for work (and hey don't hate, I do outside sales and deliver the occasional electrical order, and tow snowmobiles in the winter - but 80% of the time my bed is empty too!)

Agreed 100% - even Cadilacs and such have terrible leather (my 2011 fusion's owners manual recommends using vinyl cleaner on my 'leather' seats!)

The Canadian site only offers this option on the Platinum.

Rain sensing wipers! "Free" health care! WFT! Makes me wonder how they determine what options you get depending on where you live.

Sorry I am done:
and don't forget that any red-blooded american could join our Olympic basketball team! (I love the Simpsons)

The Platinum's grille is more aerodynamic so they get better gas mileage...

Seriously though, reading the arguments on this site is better than watching prime time TV.

Well I was not going to say anything.......but I agree with Platinum Dawg. I too have a 2011 Platinum. I do pull a 20' enclosed trailer but, I don't haul all that much. I loved the truck when I saw it, I could afford it so I bought it. It has everything I want and need in a truck. If you can't handle that then you don't even need to be on this or any other forum.
Nuff said!!!

Well at least that is a good problem to have, some gals don't understand us with our toys that we like to have.
