Default Platinum Power Running Boards

I just purchased a new platinum 4X4. On the one hand, I think the power running boards are pretty cool. On the other, I can foresee the potential for issues - obviously the motor or sensing system could fail, but also I wonder about how they handle dirt, gravel, use when grimy, and what happens when freezing rain hits - do they freeze in the "stowed" position? I also wonder if I wouldn't prefer the protection static boards or bars would provide from debris kicked up by the wheels. I did buy the luxury truck, but just for the luxury inside. I still want to use it like a truck.

Any input from folks who have had theirs in the above scenarios?

Has anyone ever switched out the motorized running boards for something more conventional?

we had a good bit of snow this winter and I didn't have any issues with the power boards. I also have mud guards that help prevent some stuff from being throwed up by the tires but the boards still got some snow/ice on them and like I said they worked fine.

And that's before the OP even starts talking about the big shiny silver thing he noticed attached to the back of his truck..

Well, it is silver, which I got both because I like it and because the blingy bits stand out less when the rest of the truck is silver, too.

Oh hey! Don't misunderstand. I have a Platinum too. I like the shiny bits.

No problems with your spaceship running boards? As far as I can tell, if I don't like them it looks like I can just have them replaced, at least I don't see any reason I couldn't. My ultimate goal is to keep this pickup until it just wears out, and I want to minimize the things that can wear out. However, I guess I can just use these until that problem arises, if it does.
