And every time you hit the cooled seat button on a hot day that is money well spent!

My 13FX4 has heated/cooled seats so I saved that $5 (Ha ha). Really all about packaging once you are a year or two into the generation.

Certain things people like for certain reasons.

They should reclassify the off-road to the dirt path package. But the platinum with the retractable steps and chrome/silver look was merely to cater to the yuppy crowd. doesn't mean everyone who buys them doesn't use them like any other truck,, just like the KR is catered to the cow poke community. I don't farm but love the KR leather and look. Just to be different and not dime a dozen on the road..i haven't seen one that looks like mine in my area all year. Whatever model someone chooses, it rarely stays stock,, guys love to mod to make there trucks unique and different from the crowd.
Lmao, dirt path package!

But what's so strange (and sometimes funny to read) with the F150 truck is how many people feel one way or the other, some put off, some offended, some arrogant and others angry over a silly model designation: FX4 versus Platinum, Lariat, KR; chrome versus shocks, etc... The parts in the Platinum are the same as the FX4 and the other models, except maybe the crappy plastic covering is a different color or laminated differently. The Platinum model is NOT a luxury vehicle, it just has some just some upgraded parts; however, some of the comments in this thread and other threads would lead you to believe otherwise. For me, the difference between the Platinum and the FX4 was about $3-$5 a month in my car payment! And on that note, thanks again to everyone who helped me with my decisions, happy holidays (whatever you celebrate), Happy New Year, and to all those who think Platinum owners are the upper echelon, just remember everyone poops and dies the same lonely way.
There is a difference, I will trade you my STX for a week!

On that note, on mine, it's a lower model and I don't feel as bad using it as a truck whereas had I bought a higher trim I would.

I could have gone higher trim but I knew I was going to be towing and hauling stuff and I also wanted no carpet because I have kids a recently got a dog and didn't want to deal with all the hair and mud. If I got carpet I would have just had to spend a couple hundred more just to cover it. Lol

I love my truck and I have added what I wanted and don't have anything I don't.

the platinum is just a fully loaded bling appearance package. no more no less.

a fully loaded fx4 has everything the platy has with a different appearance and the exception of power running boards. being 1k cheapers is fine with me.

IMO go with what looks best to you, as far as functionality and equipment goes you can get them equipped the same. the rest is all appearance.

i personally think the fx4 package looks better, i don't like all the bling chrome on my trucks.

as far as shocks are concerned the fx4 does appear to have some differences compared to a 2wd truck. my friend bought a 2013 fx2 a few months ago and i just got a 2013 fx4. both trucks ride great, but his feels softer and mine feels just a tad bit stiffer. just an observation i made.

My platinum came with rubber floormats. I mud out in the fields during fall harvest alot. Poor platty gets all dirty. Looks great. Then clean it up and it looks even better and then start all over again. OP good choice, your plat will go where the road ends no prob. Have fun.

This isn't true, but they are very close. Platinum has a few more options such as heated rear seats, fold down armrest in the rear seat with 2 cup holders in it and a few others. I've heard more sound deadening material as well as a thicker windscreen though I don't know if that's actually true or not.

In other news my 6.7l f350 Platinum has Hill descent control but I live in ND so I've not had the opportunity to try it out, haha!

Plat also has real aluminum on the dash and not brushed plastic, leather padded arm rests in the front AND rear, rear heated seats, and ambient lighting along with the other differences already memtioned.

Platinum and FX4 trucks are very capable 4x4's that can handle good off road. The Platty just does it with style...
