Before I get to asking my question(s) here, let me first offer this disclaimer that I'm not ripping on Platinums or anything even remotely related to such activity.
That said, what exactly do you get with the Platinum package that you don't get otherwise? The only obvious things to me are the brushed aluminum plate on the tailgate (which I do not care for at all) ... and the emblems that say "Platinum" on the truck ... and the wheel selection/options are different (mostly chrome from what I've seen, again, which I don't care for at all). And of course, the grille options.
On the interior, engine, etc... what's the deal?
All I really know is that the Platinum looks to be an appearance package more than anything else, but it comes with a pretty hefty price tag (at least in my limited research).
So, for those of you with Platinum trucks, what's the scoop on them?

I can get a Platinum for roughly $8K to $10K below sticker, which is well worth it for the instrument cluster, interior materials, seats, power running boards, heated rear seat for the kids, moonroof, etc. Looking at a Platinum and then looking at other trucks (not just Fords) makes a lot of the other stuff look "cheap" on the interior. I'm not a fan of chrome either, but I feel like the Platinum has more brushed accents than chrome. Irrespective of model, I typically swap wheels anyway.
The FX4 is nice too; still considering one of those.

The Platinum comes with a long list of standard features that aren't on the other models. It's like a Cadillac Escalade versus a Yukon ... similar, but the difference is in the details for those that care. The best way to realize the many differences is to pull-up a window sticker online for both a Platinum and Lariat (as an example) and for comparison.

Just bought a '14 Platinum 4x4 with the Ecoboost; the deals are too solid to pass up when a $55K loaded truck can be had for $46K. I wanted silver, but black was on the lot and I can park it in the garage, so it works. I also like the forthcoming '15s, but content to wait a few years and see how they pan-out with the new 2.7L Ecoboost.
As for the chrome comments ... the only chrome I see on my truck is the shifter, which can be said for other models too. Most every other accent piece is a brushed aluminum look. The mirrors have a faux chrome, but that's about it. Excellent truck ... my 3rd F-150. Just needs a modest lift and either 33s or 35s.
