As far as I'm concerned, power steps and that's it lol. I don't like the wheels, tailgate thing, extra chrome, etc. but the "prestige" that comes with it is certainly nice. I've driven dozens of every trim with every option, and it really is mostly perception. I "think"/feel like Plats are nicer, but when looked at completely objectively, it's just another way to spend more money at the end of the day. It's the same thing as buying a Lexus versus a Toyota, even though they're the "same" car (I know they're very different, but using it for comparison's sake). "You're paying for the badge."
Fancy trucks and maxed? Yeah, and I'll take that tailgate. It's brushed aluminum and doesn't shine on anyone except those who don't like it. The wheels are great pieces of polished aluminum. They aren't particularly shiny, have smooth surfaces, and make for wheels that are pretty easy to keep clean.
Both trucks were purchased with the max ESP and warranty. Both were paid for in cash (with the requisite FordCredit discount period of 3 days, or whenever the earliest payoff).
Buy what you think is right for you. You want to liken it to "Lexus vs. Toyota?" "Same thing?" Go ahead. I wanted two great trucks and went 2-for-2. A couple of limos that can and do haul.
Badge.

Didn't I talk to and help you on F150online with the level on your current truck? Think you bought your son or son-in-law a Plat as a marriage/anniversary present or something? I recall someone in the area getting a 1.5" AS installed at the AS shop.
Buying a Platinum doesn't make it a great truck, it's the same truck as the XL version with the same motor as far as capability, function, and reliability. And do you think saying you paid cash for them matters at all? No. For the record, I don't like financing vehicles and probably won't ever do it. So while I don't understand it's mention, I agree that that's the best way to acquire one; paying cash assures that you can actually afford a $50k truck.
The Platinum is a "badge," and that's it. It's a great truck, didn't say it wasn't. I fully understand the image boost behind it. My area is littered with them, and I like seeing them. But your dollar doesn't get you much; Ford earns more money on each Platinum than they do on any other trim level, save maybe the Limiteds and some KRs. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy one, just explaining my opinion on what they are. Personally, I don't care for the chrome accenting, or the wheels, or the ugly tailgate trim, but they're unique and make the vehicle stand out from the rest. And it should be unique, that's what you're paying for, to have the top of the line truck and have it be clear to everyone who knows their F150s that that's exactly what you've got. Again, not saying anyone shouldn't buy one.
BTW, a big Lexus GS is an Avalon with a motor that runs on premium, some higher-grade leather, a nice suspension, and a Lexus badge ('bout $10k just by itself). They don't feel anything alike, but they are quite similar, just different skin and a minor heart transplant, oh and significantly higher maintenance costs. But realtors and lawyers can't drive Toyotas. They have a purpose, and that's fine, but it's still a fancy Toyota with a much different public perception.
I think anyone who looks at this objectively can understand that.

This is the Platinum Club thread. The participants of this thread like all of the features that come with the trim level of the Platinum. I bought my Platinum over the other trim levels because I did not want to drive off the lot and later regret not having the options included in the Platinum. All of these options are also installed at the manufacturing process and fully covered by the factory warranty. I enjoy not having to worry about my power steps being grounded to the wrong wire. How many people on this forum have added power steps and ambient lighting to their trucks. These two mods seem to be the most popular of the standard equipment on the Platinum. We are also starting to see those that don't have the MFT radio changing theirs out to something similar, after market of course.

Just got my new tail-lights. I had put them in right away, what do you guys think?
Also I bought my Platinum because it was the quietest and smoothest riding truck on the lot. Plus it was fully loaded.

Those LED tailights are awesome. Where did you find them?
And I agree, this is a Platinum thread. If you don't like them that's fine. But did you really have to come on this thread and "bash" them? I bought my Plat because that is what I wanted. End of story. I like it enough to fork out the how ever much extra for those things even if they mean nothing to the next guy. If you have the truck that makes you happy at the end of the day, isn't that what is important? I know my truck and the other numerous guys on this thread that have a Plat probably feel pleased with their decision to buy one.
