Default smart men learn from their mistakes. Wise men learn from others.

Hello, Just joined the forum I use another ford forum for my 65 mustang fastback and use other forums for many other projects and what not. Any way the title says it all! I just got back from Afghanistan (USMC infantry grunt) my wife surprised me with a new 2011 f150 xlt screw tow, convienance pkg offroad 3.73 gears 5.0 motor and some other cool gadgets... so here I am in love with the truck but trapped in Hawaii! so my plan.
what I want to do. and here is where you all come in because you have been there and done it.
side note when I search for 5.0 2011 upgrades only 2010 out there??? same body yeah?

1, intake? K&N? just filter or go for a whole cai?

2, Lift or Level? I am looking for prolly 3 to 5 inches thats with tire equated never been sold on bigger than 33's but lets hear it. so what will give me best performance price don't matter lift or level and what did you guys find was best?

3, exhaust? I like the stock is it worth it yet or wait till more hit the market? I am ok with stock for now so sell me ...

4, Cloth seats... thinking wet okala covers

5, Stereo I want Head unit with screen to fit factory loc. work w my b/u cam and if you recommend steering wheel cont./ sync compatible I know some think aftermarket units do it better... and the fitting for around unit in dash.
and for sound I love music I don't want 2 15s slamming in the back just really good all around quality rich sound.

6, will raptor fender flares fit? any better recommendation?

is tuner worth it or just wait? I have heard that with this 5.0 alot of cool stuff will be out... superchargers and what not so should I wait?

any thing you have to offer in advice or experience I am open to. I know that those who have gone before have that 20/20 hindsight thanks for your valuable time.
Lets hear what you learned.

Thumbs up

I'd just like to start off by saying thank you for your service and welcome to the forum!

I can't exactly speak for the 2011 5.0, but for an 03 4.2 a drop-in K&N filter did help out a little with MPG, HP, and Torque. With a full CAI to replace the stock intake there was way more difference in MPG and Torque, plus better throttle response. If I understand correctly a Gott's mod with a drop-in filter replacement acts just like a CAI and it costs way less.

As far as advice on the rest, I am of no benefit whatsoever. Honestly, I think patience will pay off in the end. If you get something now there is a very good chance that something else with all the bells and whistles will come along...that's just my opinion.

WOW...you got a lot going on here.

Performance....If you install the entire K&N kit you will get more benefits out of it...although it is not that much by itself. Ideally...you will want to put a CAI, exhaust, and some sort of tuner to max out your gains. I see you mentioned supercharges...they are great, but pricey as all get out...nearly $6K installed (unless you can do it yourself).

Lift/Level...you can fit 33's on your truck with a level. I am sure you are already aware; however, if you decide to lift your truck you are going to rob it of performance. Depending on how high you go and what size tires, you will want to change you gears to something lower...probably 410's.

Seat Covers...had the Wet Okole's in my jeep and loved them. They are a bit more expensive then some of the other brands, but you can customize them (colors, piping, etc...) for your truck.

Hope this helps...can't tell you much about audio or fender flares. I do know that quite a few folks like the Bushwacker mfg...could be something to check out.

Welcome home!

Wait, you are "trapped" in Hawaii? Don't bemoan the prices for shipping parts... just join "island time" and watch some whales!

Or you could run around half naked in the land of the free! A thatched roof should be sufficient to prevent sun damage to the truck and provide camo for your continued protection of Pearl Harbor. Unwind, relax, enjoy! You've earned it.

Welcome back! Camp Pen guy myself, but coming from Oki I do miss the island weather. I don't have a 5.0, but I did notice 5 stat tunes has something for the 5.0's now. Might be a good place to start for the tunes.
