Just bought a set of fx4 tails off amazon and considering doing this, reading through sounds like a major PITA and unsure if I want to tackle a possible mess up on brand new lights .

Think I'll wait lmao

It's not a hard job. It just takes time and patience. The results are worth the time.

well just got the lights in today, looking at them I can see what everyone was talking about with the lip near tailgate. The other three sides don't seem like they will be a huge issue. Going to put them in Sunday...

But now that I have the actual lights I'm going to do this

I see some people are using RTV over the paint, never used this stuff whats the best way to put that on after paint dries? Does it affect the fit when you put the lights on?

God i hope i don't mess this up...

Update (yes an hour after my first post about considering this):

First one I have three sides done, Obviously going to need some type of syringe/toothpick for that tailgate side i can get the touch up paint brush in...but not far enough to make it look good.

I did one coat and then when done went back around and hit it again. I used the small bottle of OEM touch up dealer gave me, because I had it laying here. Paint is very runny but second coat covered pretty well.

So heres my question it looks decent, obviously off the truck and 2 inches from my face I see some imperfections, do you think it needs another coat or if i use the black RTV to seal will that fill in the gaps enough so you can't tell?

The rear lights look real neat and clean. Nice job.
Side Bar,
You Aluminum Wheels look awesome, looks like a S.O.B. to clean.
Lot of right angles?

Lol thanks,

Well first two coats dried overnight going to try and clean up some of the excess glue I missed today and touch up a few spots, going to get syringe and maybe a second bottle of touch up (in case I need way more) and finish them tonight.

I'll rtv them tomorrow once dry really hoping that covers up the imperfections!
