Yeah alright thanks. Giving it a final go tomorrow with silicone, I think it's safest to just do that.
Other than this last inch or so of edge this mod was so straight forward and easy I though it was too good to be true lol. Anyway still well worth it, just a small bit of grief

Alright I'm accepting defeat. At this point I just want my truck back. This top corner of the tailgate defer for the drivers side is just too tight. I've given all kinds of brushes a try, made the paint as water based as possible. And nothing.

All in all the mods not hard and makes the lights look dramatically better. I'd definitely say go with water based acrylic paint because it can get messy. I suggest looking at the edges first before starting. All of my edges were nice and wide except this one which made this whole thing hell. I'll be taking it to my friend who owns a body shop, maybe he can separate the housing for me so I can paint it in detail then seal them again. At least I hope he can do that.

just so you know, mine has some ruby on the edges too...its a pita...still looks good...

Wolf, just thing out loud here. I know finding a syringe with a needle is next to impossible these days. But, if you can would it be possible to thin the paint a little, fill the syringe, and get the point of the needle in the area that is giving you trouble, then squirt the paint into the edge.

Yeah I though of this too but just the way the paint seems to be flowing there's either glue in the way or it's just too too tight and narrow. I'm thinking it's more than do able to have my body shop separate the housing and the lens then I can give it a detailed paint then have them join them again. Sounds feasible no?

I bought syringe and needles from here. they have all different gauges of needles. I found that after the silicone set I could inject the paint through it an stayed right where I wanted

I was having the same problem of not getting the paint to stick to some areas, not sure why glue maybe. So I siliconed the edges to protect the paint. And after it set up I injected the needle through the silicone and was able to precesily inject the paint to the thin spots. The silicone seems to keep the paint in place and not having it run off to areas already holding paint.

IDK, I'm thinking a Body Shop won't touch it. They'd just buy a new light if they ever had a problem with one so they may be stumped like you. I could be wrong though.

I think the problem is glue. I had some spots like that too. I took a hobby knife and a tiny tiny flat head driver to it. The kind you use on small electrical components, the kind you twist with you fingers and the handle end rotates to you can put pressure on the handle....

Anyway, I grooved and tried to cut through the glue, then I ever so gently, poked and very slowly and slightly pry with minimum amount of force to crack the excess glue. Just do enough to hear and feel the glue crack. I did this along the seem until I could get paint in there.

Yeah my father said they might not touch it. He suggested taking a small grinder to this area to widen the gap. Sounds possible. I'll give it a go next weekend before I try the body shop
