Default Paint protection under flares?

About to pick up some of those lund sport flares, but I was wondering what is the best way to prevent paint damage/rust when using flares? I live in an area with heavy salt usage in the winter so if something is not protected in some way, it will rust.

I figured a good coat of wax then a layer of grease underneath should work, any other ideas or suggestions?

It's very important for those that live in areas that use a lot of salt on the roads to wash your truck frequently.

This and you might take them off ,clean and apply new coat of wax every once and awhile.

My recommendation would be to apply the 3m film directly under where the flares will be, and also have it come about a half inch out. That will prevent you from having to take the flares off to clean underneath. It's still a crapshoot though. Dirt and moisture tend to find their way into every nook and cranny no matter what.

I took off my OEM FX4 flares (they're for sale, BTW - cheap) and installed the Lund Sport Flares. The FX4 flares were starting to scar the paint. The Lund flares come with a length of *rubber* edge beading to insulate the flare from the fenders. A much better set up than OEM. I also had my flares sprayed with truck bed liner to match my side valances.

Got a picture of the new flares? I'm like 8/10 ordering them, don't want to go as far out as bushwackers but do need more protection.

I do wash it every now and again in the winter, but that proves difficult with -20 degrees Celsius weather. Going to put clear 3m on my bumpers and underneath flares after I clean them all off real well. I get the truck krowned every fall but of course that isn't helping the flares.

Didn't do nothing under the flares for the trucks first winter, sure hoping when I haul them off there isn't already lasting damage.

I'll try to get a pic tomorrow. If not, it'll be Monday.
