Orange Peel Fix
#11
Thank you mbullock. Been paint for myself since I was 18. I've used all guns. SATA is the way to go. SATA 4000rp with 1.3 tip. I can spray it and it doesn't need any cutting and buffing. Primer guns are superior too.
Good luck to the OP. my truck is just a lease so I'm not worrying about the paint texture on mine. My next truck will be an FX4 and I will purchase it. Then I'll consider cutting and buffing it.

Thank you for not taking offense to my statement, as I didn't mean any. Reading it afterwards I could see how it could be taken the wrong way.
I know you work in Fords paint division, so I know you would know better than me. I actually think this is a good thing that I'm hearing different information. Our PPG salesman tell us lines of BS all the time. Like PPG owns the patent on the e coat, and stuff like that. Not like the concept of paint reps telling you one thing, then 2 months later telling you to do the opposite, is a new thing. Wait till he comes in this week...haha!
Here is a rumor i heard recently, Dupont is selling their paint division, and PPG is looking to buy it.

Your first problem was worrying about someone elses opinions. People are gonna talk sh*t anytime you have something they don't have. My truck looks like glass but people will walk around it until they find something to b*tch about. Fixing the orange peel won't change that.

And this isn't like it some jealous "friend" or co-worker. These are goddamn strangers that notice it after about 15 secs of looking at the truck. It's not typical, this is BAD orange peel. I haven't found a dealership that has been helpful for.....any of the problems with this truck now that I think of it, so I'm probably not going to push the issue. I'm actually tossing around the idea of dealing the truck now anyway. Trying to get the leaky tranny fixed is wearing me down; I'm just not too thrilled about the truck anymore and the whole idea of long term ownership.

Yup, same issues for me with the orange peel. Now almost 30 hours of colorsanding and paint correcting on my 12 Platinum in triple white.I was on the service drive here in Dallas a few weeks back and a brand new(identical) triple white was being delivered to it's new owner and the sales guy was comparing both as they were side by side. Kept looking back and he could see the new one looked like garbage but could not figure out why and shrugged his shoulders and said, "boy, looks like they changed the white color a few shades"... the service tech that knows me and what I did almost busted a gut laughing. That is a sad but true story on our factory paint. I am still not 100% happy with my work but getting closer.

No offense taken. Actually DuPont did recently sell it's paint division to an investment firm, I think Carlyle. We were told that the plants shouldn't notice the change on how they do business, the changes would be higher levels.
