If my truck didn't come with HID I wouldn't install them. Halogens aren't that bad. Everyone thinks white/blue type light is best these days, maybe its cause they look cool I guess. Same with LED's which are absolute garbage as a headlight in stock housings (looks cool I guess?). Not to mention oncoming drivers will hate you, especially if you don't aim them right, as co-workers at my job have told me. Now I'm quite prepared for the hate, which I know will come. But I can rest assured I am right.

1000$ for something that isn't much better seems like a waste of money.

Does anyone else think that HID lighting is subpar?

to each their own but for me, not one bit. I hate driving my wife's '09 Camry with halogen projectors. she wants to trade in the car soon but I want to retrofit the projectors with HID projectors. she doesn't know the difference in anything but she noticed when I had my previous car retrofitted with HID projectors. it was a night and day difference.

Thanks I just want to make sure I am not throwing money out the window. We are here to upgrade and improve our trucks, after all.

I'm going to make a big assumption and say that most of your night driving is in town in well lit areas.
Light around here sucks or is nonexistent. Coming from an SUV w hids to the truck without was bad.

Stage3 sources from The Lighting Firm which is the sister company of All Star lights.

As for HID. It's great. Huge upgrade from halogen.
OEM HIDs are a bit narrow in their pattern for my liking and thus I sourced a projector swap. Not the same % increase as halogen to HIDs but still an improvement. The costs are significant though and hard for most to justify.
