oil change interval

Follow the oil monitor and use a good quality synthetic motor oil. It costs a bit more but far better oil. Lasts longer and better in cold and hot weather. Always use the recommened grade and keep track of oil changes if you are doing it yourself for warranty.

You know what they say about opinions, everyone has got one so here is mine: Devinitely stay within the book that comes with your vehicle called scheduled maintenance guide. I have a 2010 4.6 and mine says to change it every 7500 miles. You also have a following section called special operating conditions for towing, etc. Change oil evey 5000 miles. Also if I do not reach the miles I change mine every 6 months for sure. I plan on changing mine every 5000 or 6 months which ever comes first. I Know it probably is accurate, but I do not want to totally rely on a computer to tell me when to change my oil. That's my .02. That's using Ford recommended Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic-blend. You can use full synthetic and that is a personal choice. I use to and after researching the different classes and brands and numbers on them, I think it would be a waste of my money because I will always change my oil within 5000 miles.

If you are changing your oil every 5,000 miles it is definitely a waste of money to go full synthetic.

Oil Change Interval
At ever oilchange I’ve been told that have to change the oil more frequently than themanual states, because I’m in Canada. I was still being told this when theweather was warm which made no sense.
On one occasionI was told by a Service Manager at a reputable Ford garage, when I madereference to the manual, that it was a general manual for the whole of NorthAmerica and the requirements are different in Canada. The service agent wasunable, when I pointed out that the manual stated the distance was inkilometers and therefore could only apply to Canada, why I should have the oilchanged more frequently than recommended by Ford. In searching for some kind ofa response he added “that’s what I’ve been told” and he further added that “itmight affect your warranty if you do not change the oil more frequently”.
Sofrustrated was I that I was constantly being told to change my oil every 8,000km because I live in Canada that I contacted Ford directly. I eventually talkedto a very nice lady who assured me that if I complied with the requirementsdetailed in the owner’s manual there was no need to increase the oil changefrequency and that my warranty would not be affected by doing so.
Like othersI garage my truck and 90% of my journeys are highway driving and for longdistances. She was at a lost to explain why the Ford garages I’ve used tochange the oil would give any other advice.
The addedfrustration came when I asked the nice lady to provide me a written response tomy question so that I could show it to future Service Managers and avoid the challengeevery time I have the oil changed. She declined, saying she was not allowed toprovide responses in writing. She did add that my complaint had been recordedon the Ford system and therefore would be available for future reference.
There seemsto be a number of Canadian’s being told the same thing. We could speculate onthe reasons for the garages doing this but the issue would be quickly resolvedif Ford issued a memo to Canadian Ford dealerships to amend theircommunications in line with that in the manual provided with the vehicle and inline with the information they themselves give customers when challenged.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like the vehicle. It’scomfortable, does what I want it to do, economic (12l/100km, approx. 20 mpgUS), and very reliable. As I have experienced with other manufacturers, greatproduct let down by the way you are treated by the dealerships. Hence my username as I am in the market for a new truck. This time I’m inclined to giveChevy a go. Here’s hoping

I change my oil every 3 months. I usually put 2,000 miles of stop and go city driving. The temps change all the time ( one day its 30F and the next its 70F lol) iv been running the motorcraft oil from the dealer but I only have one more free oil change so after ill run Mobil one synthetic or amsoil.

The manufacturer says go by oil life moniter but what do they know? as for warenty Ford warrents the truck not the dealer. Im old school on breakin I would change oil now [first change] and then go by moniter. If you are uncomfortable with the extended change you can always set your moniter to a lower % when you reset it after your oil change and it will remind you sooner.Bubbabud 2011XLT SC Ecoboost
