Default oil change interval

on my 2011 f150 with the 5.0 v8 the manual says to follow the oil life monitor for oil change schedule.

right now i have 7500kms on the oil and it says 60% oil life remaining.

but the dealer insists because i live in canada the interval is still every 8000kms just like the old 5.4l...
they say its because of the cold climate etc in the winter. but i thought the oil life monitor measured temperature and driving habits etc so it should still be accurate here..

so does anyone have the correct info? should i follow the computer like the manual says, or follow the dealer?
thanks

Theres a lot of opinions on when to change your oil. Some say follow the oil life meter. some say every 3000. some say every 5000 or 7500 or whatever. It really depends on your driving habits, and environment.

if you do a lot of highway miles you can stretch out your changes. if you do a lot of stop and go you should change more often. if you are on dusty dirty roads, more often.

For me, I do a lot of stop and go driving. I live in the chicago suburbs so there is a stoplight at every corner. My old truck i did every 3000-4000, but with this new truck im gonna save a bit of money and go a bit longer.

I did my first oil change at 1200 miles. i will do all my oil changes at around 5000 mile increments after that. so my next will be around 6200. I used mobile 1 and motorcraft filter.

Ill let you do your own conversions for kms

well my truck is parked in a heated underground garage (over 21c at all times) and mostly driven on a nice gentle highway run of 40kms each way to work at max of 100kph (60mph) and if even slightly cold when parked at work its plugged in.

so it has an easy life. having done oil analysis on all my previous cars here i have found i could of gone a lot lot further than the factory allowed oil change interval. my driving style i guess is pretty good for oil life.

but my question basically comes down to warranty issues. the manual and the dealer are contradicting each other. .. im not worried about the oil life. right now it is still really clean and new looking.. but i am concerned about keeping the warranty good.

i dont know of any dealership that would cancel a warranty for changing oil too soon. if so....thats a terrible dearlship. If you are still on your oil change i would change it. after that you can deteremine if you want to go the full "engine oil life" according to the meter on the truck.

8000 kms is about 5000 miles. i would say thats a decent period to change the oil. But i dont think it would hurt to go maybe 6000. and if they are gonna hassle you and bring up warranty issues about oil changes...well like i said that is a terrible dealership.

the only way i could see a warranty issue about oil change is if a person went 25000 miles on factory oil and something broke.

no, thats my point. i dont want to change it now. changing oil too early is just throwing money away.

i think the oil as it is could easily do 12000+kms.

but the dealer insists its 8000kms. but even they admitted all they are doing is sticking to last years model info.

no, i changed the factory oil at 1000kms.
i know the official rating for this engine is 10000 miles or 16000kms. but the dealer is saying thats only for warm sunny climates...

Default Dealer told me 16,000 km

I asked my dealer about this, and he said with the introduction of the oil cooler on all engines, it should last longer than previously was possible, so 16,000 KM was the recommended interval. I am in Vancouver so it doesn't get too cold, but that is what they told me so I will stick to that.
