Default Guns and sunroof!

In the past I would use my truck as a shooting rest on our private land. Sitting on the bed rail with two sandbags on the roof of the cab, provides for a very stable shooting platform (target shooting not hunting). Now I have a sunroof in my 2012 fx4. Would it be ok to continue shooting over the cab of my truck if I opened the sunroof to protect it?

Probably depends on how loud it is. If it was mine, I wouldn't do it unless it was suppressed, purely because I don't know if it would affect the glass or tracks at all.

3006, 308, 223. I no longer own any wompus stompus magnums. 223 is the only rifle with a brake.

Knowing how loud my own .30-06, .308, and .223s are I definitely wouldn't do it to my own truck... who knows, maybe it'd absolutely be fine, but I'd be way too worried to do it.

Just make sure the muzzle clears the glass. We lost a mirror on a 250 to muzzle blast once

Personally I would carry a blanket and a small sheet of plywood wood, 18"x24" maybe. Throw the blanket over the roof and place the plywood over the sun roof.

It's the 308 and 30-06 I'd be a little worried about. I'm sure the brake on the 223 projects blast to the sides and top and not on the bottom (especially if it's an A2 birdcage). You might be fine with nothing but it doesn't hurt to add more. Just takes an extra second to get setup.

good idea. Blanket, then maybe make a sled with a piece of plywood with two 2x4s on it so the 2x4s sit on the blanket on the metal of the truck as opposed to the sheet of plywood pressing through the blanket onto the glass.

Thatd be good too! Auto glass is surprisingly strong but sometimes the harmonics work out just right and **** happens. It's always a good thing to be extra cautious with this $40k trucks.

I like the idea of plywood over a blanket, that should work.
