It's not erroneous. My truck came stock with BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains. Most came with Michelins..

The statement below is erroneous as it leads one to believe that only that specific tire came on the xlt with 18" wheels.

2wd trucks with 18" wheels get Michelin's. 265/60/18 to be spe ific
MOST 4wd trucks with 18" wheels get SRA's 275/65/18. Although it seems some trucks have arrived with Goodyear wrangler ATS' ford has not used the bfg's from the factory on the 18" wheels for a few years now.

Additionally, they completely changed the driving characteristic of my truck. Can't wait to be done with them. Had them on for about 8,000 miles and am considering trading them in for a set of more road-friendly used tires. Moral of the story is, buy good tires. If I were you, spend the extra $$$ and get Michelin LTX M/S2 tires. They can go for about 80,000+ miles if you properly rotate them.
You're mpg dropped because your tire is a full inch bigger in diameter as well as a good bit heavier.

inch bigger? how do you figure that? all of the stock tires are within a quarter of an inch of being the same diameter.

I am not sure where you came up with the notion that all stock tires are with 1/2" of each other. its just not true.

the stock 2wd Michelins which are 265/60/18 = 30.5"

the stock 20" size is 275/55/20 = 31.9"
by my math that is 1.4" difference

just for reference (excluding raptor) there are 7 different tire sizes listed for a 2013 F150 (I picked 2013 because it was in the middle)
235/75/17 = 30.8
265/60/18 = 30.5
265/70/17 = 31.6
275/45/22 = 31.7
275/55/20 = 31.9
275/65/18 = 32.0
LT245/75/17 31.4

so yes, they are all close. however the person I was speaking of went from THE SMALLEST option to one of the largest.

MPETE - You're correct in the fact that my tires are a larger diameter, which will throw off both my speedometer and fuel calculator into thinking I'm getting lower fuel economy. However, having multiple conversations with techs at my Ford dealership and doing some research online, the Scorpion ATR tires are heavier, have a higher rolling resistance and other attributes that make them worse on MPGs than their competition. I plan on swapping them out for a road tire. Once I do, I know I'll pick up an MPG or two. I'll let you know. \
HCFX2013 - I'm sorry you haven't had good luck with the M/S2 Michelins. They're the best tire I've ever driven on.. I've had them on multiple trucks too. Crazy nice tires. Michelin stands behind their tires and would usually warrant problems like you mentioned. On a cheaper level, I've heard the Hankook HT RH12 tires are high quality.

I wasn't even throwing the speedo being off into the equation, because I assumed you had it corrected. I was simply saying it was worse because of the bigger diameter and being a bit heavier.
as for the MS2's my boss put them on his 2006 FX4 about 2 years ago and has no complaints at all. however his truck is pavement princess and the only off road it sees is the grass lot at his kids baseball field. so he doesn't have the issue with the tread getting chewed up by gravel and the corresponding chunking and chipping.
