Default New Tires 285/75/18 or 295/70/18 HELP

Ok guys,

I have read a ton of posts on these tire sizes and literally am losing my mind. I am having trouble deciding between the two sizes 285/75/18 vs 295/70/18. Can I get some help here with which tires to go with and size?? These will be wrapped on my stock 18's for now until I get aftermarket wheels. I am also leveled on bilstein 5100's top perch.

I am debating between either the Nitto Trail Grappler M/T, Toyo O/C M/T, or Toyo O/C A/T2 Xtreme. I am banging my head on a wall because its a daily driver on road but occasional offroad and once in a while snow trips to the mountains.

Thanks guys!
~Slim

I've got 295/70/18 nitto trail grapplers on my f150. I'm the same way as you, mostly on road driving with a few offroad trips. I've liked them for the 8,000 miles I have had them on, and I'm sure you would clear them no problem with bilsteins and the stock rims too.

I think it's just personal preference. I went with the 295/70/18 because I thought the 285 would look too narrow.

What is the rim width. If its 7.5" then even the 285 is pushing the limits, but doable. I currently have the 285 AT2 Xtremes on both trucks and am very happy with them. They're a good compromise between traction and road wear. I have a set of MT's for the F350 that are officially my winter tires but I haven't put them back on this year because the AT2 Xtreme's do everything I need and survive the highway much better.

They will be on my stock FX4 rims for now but eventually will go on an 18x9 +18 offset wheel. I like the look of the Nitto Mud Grappler but worry about its on road handling on pavement and rainy roads with the minimal siping. Gr8White15 how do they handle on road for you?

They handle great in my opinion for a tire of that size, you do feel a little slower however and turn radius was affected as expected. Once I got a tuner, pushing those tires almost feels like the stock ones.

Granted it wasn't an F150 but I ran the Nittos in 295/70/18 on a JKU, mild hum and wore well. Traction on wet roads was not an issue.

Ok thank you that helps. I'm going nitto trails for sure just debating on size. There is a $50 difference making the 295's $50 more per tire. Is it that noticeable of a width difference from 295 to 285?

Here are the conversion to inches for the two. Looks like the 285 is just a tad narrower but a tad taller. This is using www.tiresize.com.
