New samsung galaxy s2 & sync texting
Thinking of buying the new samsung glxy s2 but I'd like to know how it works with sync and if receiving text messages in sync works with this phone. Currently have iPhone, works well with sync just cant get text messaging with it.

I just got a 2011 F150 w/sync and have the Samsung Galaxy and the wife has the Samsung Galaxy Infuse.
I would avoid the purchase of this phone if you want to use it with the Ford Sync. I have had my phone for about a year now and the wife about 1 month, great phones however very tempermental to being attached to intems via usb, bluetooth etc ....
I tried to connect mine with my Ford Sync via usb and it would not recognize a connection, I continued playing around with it and making attempts and it finally connected but game me a message stating the device is not supported with the sync for full functionality. One you get it connected via usb you can play music but the voice commands are not recognized. The bluetooth seems to work well, for the samsung phone, but also has trouble connecting at times.
In my experience it seems to be the nature of these types of Samsung Smart phones. The phone that your are looking at is a fantastic phone, good luck and hope this helps out, just my experience.

The texting feature is not really that cool. I have the Droid X2 and it does the Sync text and it is more annoying than helpful. It will read you the messages but the interface is clunky and you cannot send a custom text back.

My Samsung Mesmerize works great with my Sync. Text does not show up on the truck display because the Samsung Mesmerize is not set up for it.
I would not recommend depending on the Samsung galaxy S2 working if it's not on the Sync list of phones that are compatible.

Samsung Galaxy S I9000 works well but you have to learn a few tricks.
You have to always have the phone ready to go with Bluetooth on before you turn on the ignition. If you don't connection is unlikely to work properly.
Same thing happens if you walk far enough away and lose BT connection.
A phone reboot and truck restart is needed to make all right again.

I have the Galaxy S II (foreign version i9100), similar to AT&T's recently launched version. The text feature on SYNC is NOT supported on this phone. If texting is important to you while driving, and you are not set on the Android platform, may I recommend the Windows Phone. You can wait for the Samsung Focus S to come out a little later this year. It has similar specs (same great screen as the S II), and will launch with Microsoft's new Mango OS. One of the new features in Mango is the text message handling while connected to Bluetooth. It is way better than SYNC's solution. I will do my best to try and explain:
When the phone receives a new text message, it sends a signal to the car that a call has been initiated. Not an incoming call (i.e. you dont hear a ringer), its as though you made a call from the handset. Music is muted automatically and the phone tells you that you received a new text. It tells you who its from, and asks you if you want to read it. If you say yes, then the phone reads it to you (over the SYNC system of course) and when it is done, it asks if you want to reply. If you say yes, then you just say what you want it to type, and it will type it out, read it back, and then with your blessing, it will send it off. It works extremely well, and I have started to use my old Samsung Focus because of this. The Galaxy S II is an amazing phone, but as has been stated, the radios are a little iffy, both WiFi and Bluetooth. The Windows Phone isn't as flashy, but it really works great, and is completely seamless.

Thanks for the very detailed info. I think I will wait to check out the samsung focus. I'm looking at getting a new phone and I'd like to get one that will work the best with sync. I really want to get the most out of the system and hopefully not get any problems with a new phone. Thanks again for the advice.
