Default New Pads & Rotors, Still Vibrating

I'm new to the site and hoping I can get some input on a vibration I'm getting when I apply the brakes at highway speeds. I have a 2010 F150 Lariat 2WD with the 5.4L. I had new pads and rotors put on the front last year by Ford. They said the back was fine at the time. Even after leaving though, there was still a slight vibration when applying the brakes. I just finished up this evening putting new pads and rotors on the rear. After taking it for a test drive the vibration is slightly more pronounced. Any idea what this could be? I checked and triple checked and I installed everything properly, even put 12 new lug nuts on. It only happens when I apply the brakes.

Did you have the new rotors turned before installing them? Some (not all) suppliers have stacks and stacks of rotors, and if they sit for awhile "stacked", it is possible for them to need to be trued up before putting them into service.

After turning the rotors, then break in your new brakes properly through a series of aggressive 50+ mph to near-stop braking to get everything seated in well. Your issue should modify acceptably...

I would take it in and have the alignment looked at, maybe a bad ball joint or other front end issue.

I can't help you much, but I can say that my '14 xlt Screw has the same vibration. I just can't determine whether the rotors might be warped or it's something else. I was thinking I might pull them off this weekend and have them resurfaced but not sure that's going to help. I bought it used with 9800 miles and I've only put about 200 miles on it so far. It's driving me crazy though!

typical is

vibe in front you can feel in the steering wheel
vibe in the rear you can feel in the entire truck or seat of pants
this is not 100% of the time but very close

if vibe is in front or steering wheel put news pads and rtrs on
if you try to turn out a pulsation you will likely be doing it all again soon
also make damn sure there is no rust or dirt or anything like that behind the new rtr or you will be chasing the vibration for ever

brakes are very easy just don't buy cheep parts
good luck

First off, I am not intending to hijack this thread Stevenson, only trying to help since we have similar problems.

I took the rotors off tonight and am having the parts store turn them for me. He called and said one is pretty warped and he's having some difficulty resurfacing. I sent my wife to get them so we'll see how it turns out when I get it put back together.

I don't have much steering vibration when braking, seems to be the entire truck. I agree with rb, but I started with the front. I'll report back.

Update: I replaced the back rotors and pads, and had the front rotors turned and the pads sanded down. Vibration is still occuring. It shakes the whole truck when I hit the brakes around 70mph. My mechanic says he thinks it could be the U-joints now. The seal where the shaft comes into the transmission is also going out. Quoted me $500 for the joints and seal, but he says this is not a 100% guarantee fix. I'm hoping to get more info here to get a more definite solution before spending $500.

Another item I’d check if the pads are ok is the flexible brake lines. Over time, they expand and won’t let the fluid back through.
If they haven't figured it out by now, (post is 4 years old) they probably never will.
