Default New goodies for my 09 F150

I just picked up a new 09 F150 this weekend. Found out that aFe makes a catback system for it. The tailpipe is a 3.5" dia. Looks pretty beafy. Gonna install it tommorow. Ill give you guys some input. The exhaust even came with a free replacement air filter. Pretty cool. I wasnt expecting that.

if its just the tip thats 3.5 and the rest is smaller its fine. Im runnin a single cat back system at 3" and thats optimal for single pipe from cat back on these trucks

I'll agree that 3.5 inches is too big for a 5.4 liter unless the engine is gulping masses of incoming air due to head work modifications. Too large of an exhaust will actually hinder performance rather than improve it. Here's an example where "bigger is not better".

If the tip only is 3.5 inches, then that would be fine.

I just want to see pic of the truck. The dealerships around here don't have the 09s in stock yet.

Yeah..I hope that is just the tip diameter too. I have split 3''s to 3.5" tips and it seems I am very close to it's limit.

The 09's are nice...I just can't get around the grill..

Default exhaust

The system is 3" to the tailpipe. Then the tailpipe is reduced from 3.5" to 3" to slip into the muffler. I noticed an increase in power right from the start. Ill try and get some pics up of the truck. The cab is longer by 6". Very noticable over my friends 08 truck.

Good info. I went out an crawled under my 2005 F150 STX yesterday after reading your response. It appears that my 4.2 liter V6 is also using 3 inch tubing. I'll assume the Ford engineers figured that this is a good stock breathing exhaust setup for all 3 engine combinations, and therefore could get away with manufacturing just one setup!

I want to remove and replace the stock muffler; not nessesarily for better performance or sound, but rather to remove some weight. Holy cow, that is one large muffler. I could cut it open length wise and use it as a casket.
