If you are using recommended oil, your truck warms up on every trip and you don't drive exclusively on dirt roads and don't tow all the time, I would just change it every year or when the oil life is between 10 and 15. My personal opinion based on how I interpret the manual written by guys who torture tested the hell out of those engines.
Much like the above statement the Ford IOLM simply uses a 'calculation' based on several system measurements. The IOLM does not use oil quality sensors – it is entirely software-based and uses actual engine operating conditions to calculate the oil change interval by using an algorithm. So it's all an 'assumption' calculated based on historical data that Ford has gathered over time on how oil "should" react based in operating conditions. For my truck I'll take the 'better safe than sorry' philosophy and make sure it always has an oil change every 3-4k miles - it's cheap insurance for a long and healthy engine life!

Oil changes are one of the cheapest maintenance Items if not the cheapest , I do mine every 3-4K miles or 6 months . If nothing else it a good excuse to open the hood and check to see if any issues need to be addressed:-)

Cheap insurance against what exactly, though? I can't for the life of me think of anything going wrong with my engines related to the oil. Looks clean as a whistle when I look in the valve cover and the oil coming out from my 10,000 km change wasn't even that black or bad smelling, not like it was back in the 80s before Synthetic and lower tolerance clearances. But hey, you like changing oil, more power to you. If you're gonna change at 3-4k, do yourself a favor and buy conventional oil too that's even cheaper insurance!

I run mine down till the monitor says oil change needed. That's around 9800 miles. Why am I going to keep the engine running forever when Ford tells you to never change the other fluids for 150000 miles?

I'll listen to the monitor. They know more than I do about engines and oil. Doesn't matter that I've been changing oil for over 10 years.

These threads never get old. Will the old adage of 3000 mile oil change intervals ever die???

Nope, they never will.

The FIL has a new F350 Powerstroke and he runs full synthetic. He has the dealership change it every 3k miles. I have called him crazy numerous times but he is stuck in his ways.....

Wow, and don't the diesels take something crazy like 13-14 qts too?! That's gotta be at least 100 bucks a pop too.
