Default Where do wrecked F-150's go? Infuriating.

I have 5 lqk yards in my area, been watching for months, not one 09-14 F-150 to be found. What the hell. Been trying to find one so I can cut off the pass side grab handle mounts for my driver's side project. Also need a spare drivers a pillar moulding. Nothing, not one to be found.

I don't get it. Perhaps like everything else today f****** the consumer, there must be some price chop shops that buy them up from I s co's and part out. Very frustrating.

Well, here's where one of them went lol:

I hit two yards last weekend, none of them had newer F150's but they were u-pulls. Good luck on your search, I found that using http://www.car-part.com/ helped narrow down what yards in the past.

Yeah most pick and pull junk yards can't buy expensive parts or get newer cars, when you total a car the insurance company sends it to a broker who finds a buyer usually.

Its simple common sense. Why would someone scrap a vehicle for a scrap value of $400 when they can sell it at auction for $2000 to someone who will rebuild it? Insurance companies don't send late model wrecks to salvage unless they are unrebuilable (parts only).

And to add to that, most that are total losses go to yards that don't allow you in to pull. They cater to insurance companies which will pay top dollar for good used parts.

This may be different state to state, but where I'm from, the insurance co sells the truck via auction to the highest bidder. Depending on the vehicle, there are a lot of places they can go. Desirable vehicles get rebuilt if the damage isn't that bad, if it is, then larger salvage yards get them and pay top dollar bc they know they can have it stripped, parted out, and sold quickly. I don't know of any insurance only lots, or insurance companies that purchase used parts. I wouldn't allow the use of used parts, or aftermarket for an insurance fix.

And consider the fact that most of these trucks run forever and a day so they stay on the road. 2009 is only 7 years (or so) old so most are still on the road. Or, as others have stated here, they were totaled.

I was looking for a front bumper for a '92 about 10 years ago. Every yard I contacted said the same thing. "If it's here, it probably ran into something so the bumper is wrecked anyway."

My 2010 has a salvage- rebuilt title. I bought it off a wrecking yard that has a rebuild lot. I ended up paying about 1/3 of what it was worth with a clear title. Scott
