New Base vs. Old Loaded
I was just in this position and wondered how many people would have the same thought process as I did...
3-4 Year Old Lariat SCREW EB with nav/leather and 4WD GOOD SHAPE w/ less than 100,000 miles
OR
Brand New XLT SCAB V6 with cloth and power locks
Prices within $1000 either way (assume same price at that point)
I personally went with the older decked out Lariat 4x4. Was exactly what I wanted (4x4, Screw, EB, Nav, Leather, 5.5 bed, 20s, ect). It did have 98k on the clock but it was VERY WELL taken care of. Very little wear both inside and out. All I've had to change out were 2 spark plugs in the last 3k I've put on it.
LMK what ya'll think if I made the right call or not!

If the older truck and possibly is a one owner and and has a good maintenance record, I would go for it as well. It really depends mostly on how much someone would prefer a new truck over and older one. Subconsciously an awfully lot of folks whether admitting it or not generally wonder and are in anticipation of a problem showing its ugly head on a higher mileage older truck.

I would have opted for the new, it's a blank slate for you to mod any way you see fit.

I like new cuz i know the history ans I can order exactly what I want.. If i was buying used it would have to be way less then I could get new for, but thats just me.
Good luck with your new truck. It sounds really nice.

well, as you said you're comparing a loaded Lariat with the EB with a base XLT / V6... not really apples to apples which is obviously why the price is the same.
Having said that, it's all personal preference. I bought the truck new, and I cringe every time I think about how much money it really costs. Buying used would have eased some of that. Less depreciation for one!

Like in my position: My budget was around $26k so I could have had a 2015 XL with power locks for that price. Now, my $26k went with the 2011 Lariat route with more miles, but an all around well kept truck. See where I'm coming from?

When your budget is set, and you want/need to buy something within that budget, things can get hairy at times ... and because of that, personally, I choose to NEVER buy something I know I won't be happy with, regardless of the price. So if the NEW truck is not what you want (even if it fits your budget), I would pass on it.
There are two types of "buyer's remorse" if you ask me ...
1. when you spend too much to begin with, and then realize you shouldn't have spent all that money ...
2. when you buy something you don't want for less than the cost of what it is you really want, then later realize you should have spent that extra money to have exactly what it is you want/need.
To me, the second of those two is way worse.
My advice ... keep looking for something that fits your budget AND is something you really want ... or keep saving money to increase your budget so you can get what you want, even if it costs more than you can afford at this moment in time.

It really is not apples to apples. They are two different configured vehicles. One step away from buying a Prius or used truck at same price....
For what it's worth, if you needed the power and cab size, I think you will enjoy your new ride. I would have hated a scab with a base engine as I need the cab room and power to tow. Plus having one of the fastest vehicles on the road makes it fun!

In late 2013 i had the same situation come up. I could have had a brand new STX Ex Cab 5.0 or bought my Boss's 2011 Limited with 22k miles and i've known the truck it's whole life. It was a no brainer for me to spend $30k on the Limited rather then a STX i knew would not make me happy.
