Need Help Picking Tire Size for 2012 Platinum 4X4 w/ Bilstein 5100's
I need help in picking between two tires. Here's my set up:
2012 Platinum Ecoboost 4X4 w/ factory 20's
Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners - Fronts will be set at 2nd to highest setting
I am not looking to do any serious offloading. I fish and hunt. That translates into towing a 24' bay boat and driving down dirt roads and across fields from time to time. I don't want to ruin the ride or gas mileage, but I would give up a little for a better look. I do not want to have any rubbing.
Here are the tires I am considering:
275/65/20 - Nitto Terra Grapplers
295/60/20 - Nitto Terra Grapplers
I will be purchasing the tires at Discount Tire and trading in my new 275/55/20 Pirellis that came on the truck. They are giving me a trade allowance of $100 per tire. The tires only have 150 miles on them. The turn key cost to do the 275/65/20 Grapplers is $875 with the trade, including lifetime balance, rotation, and warranty. The 295/60/20's are approximately $450 more. Has anyone found a better source to do such a transaction?
My Ford dealership is installing the Bilsteins. That way I don't have to worry about them denying it for future repairs "related to" the shocks. I opted to do this because I have read some people have run into issues with the traction control after leveling their truck and installing larger tires. The cost from the dealer to install the Bilsteins was also less than anywhere else I could find, $225. I will likely have the dealer do the alignment after I install the new tires. I was considering taking it to NTB, but I don't want to give the dealer any out. Might sign up for the 3 year alignment program at NTB down the road.
Which tires do you think would be best? And why? Also, does anyone have an alternative tire, size or brand, that they recommend? I would greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone with a similar set up.

my vote is for the 295/60-20
I have my Bilsteins on the same setting which still leaves the front end about 3/8"-1/2" lower than the rear... I am planning on running the 295-60-20 but likely maxing out the bilsteins and adding blocks or add-a-leafs to the rear.
If i had a discount tire near me I'd be all over that deal. $100 per tire. Heck yeah better than nothing. Unless you craigslist them possibly for more.
As for another size 305/55-20 is popular on these trucks leveled
as for another brand... the Goodyear Duratrac is the other tire I am considering aside from the Nitto Trail Grappler

I have all ways been a BFG guy. I have ran the KOs and the MTs with good luck. It when the Duratracs came out I thought I would give them a try. They did great in sand, dirt and snow but my problem was i could never get them to ride smooth. I rotated every 5000 and had them balanced 3 or 4 times. It felt like I had a square tire. I ran them 20,000 miles on a z71. Will not buy again. Just my experience. Hope it helps

I went with the 275/65/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers. In combination with the Bilstein 5100's on the 2nd to highest setting, they look awesome. Totally changed the look of the truck. The ride is no different and the tires make no more noise than the stock Pirellis. I am running 40psi in the tires. Max is 80psi. I am going to play around with the psi and see what affect it has on the mpg's and ride. The tires are nowhere close to rubbing.
