Default Navigation updates?

Just bought a new 2012 Ford F-150 with the factory navigation unit. I assumed the new vehicles would come with updated maps but they do not. There is a highway that I drive almost everyday that was rerouted about 4 years ago to extend an airport runway. My Garmin has had the updated route for over 3 years. The nav in my new f-150 does not reflect this new route so when I drive this road it shows me driving in an open field! According to Navteq's website they update yearly. That cannot be true unless they are putting old maps in the new units at the factory. This is the first new car that I have purchased that did not come with a disk. My unit states Ver 4.2 but Nateq says there is a Ver 5.2 that was released in 2q 11 for the 2010 but does not list an update for 2011 and 2012. This tells me they put an old version in at the factory. Anyone else have any input on this?

Ford does not build the Nav units, the lowest bidder gets the job. Your complaint is normal and Navteq has a vested intrest in selling new maps and updates. Unfourtunatley Navteq is not a stand out for quality on the maps either. One can only hope that eventually Ford will put quality ahead of price but as long as we buy the trucks they have no real incentive to not save the extra 10.00 per truck on the Nav system. It really is a bean counter game 10 dollars over 100,000 units sold is Ford nets 1,000,000.00. So no, expect a expensive map update you get to buy to fix the issue.....

I had heard awhile back, that part of the series of changes for the new 2013 model, would be an upgraded Nav system.

I just read this in the past week over at another F-150 site:

....Just read in the Ford Magazine I get from the dealer I purchased our truck from.

The 2013 Navigation system will get a huge up-grade. It will have faster response time, different screen, the maps will be more three D & up-dated etc.....

So far for 2013, bigger brakes, new headlight system, new grill, new Nav, a few more interior upgrades in the dash and trim, a couple of new colors, more tire options.

Hey Sultan, I am not sure I'd be bragging about this on an open forum.

Should be illegal what those fools charge for updates compared to what garmin does, lol! Serves em right, I hope one guy buys it and puts it online and everyone else downloads it, lol! I would have no problems paying for it if it was a reasonable price, but until it is by the looks of things Ill be upgrading in 2014 if the new f150 style is awesome. I rarely use the nav anyway, but always use the rest of the features!

You can normally buy a delux TomTom for the price of these update disks
