Go buy a Tom Tom for $130. All in what you need. I travel locally most of the time. I can count on a fork the number of times I'm needed Nav. in the past 5 years.
I'm guessing that you are either young with excellent vision, or wear prescription glasses.

I tried out the TomTom on my Expedition dash, and I would need binoculars to see it clearly. I ended up using a 12" laptop and GPS program, that works well except for the wires everywhere.

But my wife has Nav on her Caddy SRX, and I can see the bigger screen just fine while driving, the same on my boat and UTV. The F150 screen is even bigger than hers.

Whichever way you go, try it out first if you can. Any Nav unit is useless if you can't see it clearly.

I have 3 built-in dash GPS units, and 3 portable units. GPS is the way to go.

Get the Nav! I have it on my 09 F150 only had truck 2 weeks and can tell its 10X better than the tomtom I have owned for two years. Better features and much easier to see!

Thumbs up

Well, pass-thru, you asked the question...and as you can see, all of us who have the nav think it's the best thing since sliced bread. The negative remarks are all from people who don't have it...but probably wish they did. They may even still be slicing their own bread!

Default Go for it.

I would have loved the Nav but it wasn't in my FX4. It is a bit pricey for me to add afterwards so I'm relying on my Portable Garmin. It's not as convenient as the in-dash. You need to remove it everytime or your window will be smashed. It is a pain. I plan to give the wife the Garmin when I get my iphone in september. They sell a real nice mount for the iphone so you can use it as a portable nav. Either way you need a nav! Crazy not to have one.

Schambo, I've been using a Garmin for years, and thought it was the bomb and got me anywhere I needed to go. After all, that's what navigation systems are for, right? Well, I thought that too...until I got this one on my new King Ranch.

Another thing, you are right about removing the portable ones. Smash and grab is on the rise all over. And, now I'm going to give you all something to think about.

When the thief busts out your window and steals your Garmin, or TomTom, or whatever, all he has to do is have it GO HOME, to take him straight to your house and rob you there too. This is why I always put a neighbor's address, about six houses up the street, that I don't like, as my HOME. So, if that ever happened to me, they'd be breaking into his house, not mine!!

Default Correct!

Mickey, you are right about that. I will have to change my home address.
In the Tristate area it is common for thieves to smash and grab. I never leave mine hooked up. Most of the time I take it with me. Fits in my pocket.
Used it on foot in NYC many times.

I have had my nuvi for 2 years and don't get me wrong, it is awesome. Have never been lost or had to print out directions since. It has bluetooth also and works great. Just wish I could trust people.

I would love the in-dash nav with a backup camera. Maybe, sometime down the road when my clients pay UP! The economy has really affected my AP!!!

Here is my 2c…

If you travel any distances over 50 miles ever, and if you want a Nav system, buy a Tom-tom, Garmin, etc for under $200. There is no need to spend the money on a full Navi-System. The Navi-Systems that some of us spend a lot of money on use it for much more than just the GPS system, most of them come with many more features like a DVD and Mp3 player, Bluetooth technology, Ipod/Iphone USB hookup, Cell phone features, etc. If you don’t plan on using any of the features, then save your money.

However, if you are like me and use all of these features all the time, then it is well worth the money. I bought an aftermarket Navi-System and had it installed for half the price the dealer is charging. It was the best investment I have made to my truck so far. I highly recommend getting one.

Well said Boz. And, like you, I use all that and wouldn't know what to do without it. And, if I didn't have the Ford Nav system on my truck, I'd have had to add one as well. Personally, just rather get all I can from the dealer originally...especially for warranty issues later on. I didn't see any pics of yours in your album...you ought to put them out there so everyone asking about one can see it. A lot of folks have been wishing they'd got the Ford Nav...and it sounds like you have a good alternative for them now. So, please share.
