Default Navigation radio....is it worth it?

I am on the fence about the navigation radio.....those of you who have it, is it worth it? Those of you who don't....any regrets?

A couple other questions.....

How long does it take to burn a cd to the jutebox, and is the software to do so already installed?

Does the Sirius travel link cost extra, or is it part of an ordinary Sirius subsciption?

Are annual updates to the navigation program included, if not how much do they cost?

I absolutely love it, couldnt imagine being w/o it. It is actually my favorite thing about the truck!

Software allready installed. Depending on CD length, its about the same, maybe a little slower than a laptop computer. I'd say it takes anywhere from 4-8 minutes, again, depending on the # and length of tracks

I have had the truck, going on three months, and have probably listened to all of 5 minutes of SIRIUS. It comes free for I believe 6 mos but I cant get away from the JUKEBOX and the bluetooth wireless streams from my iPhone. Not sure of the travel link feature

dont believe they are included, I was told they need to be updated every couple of years. I believe its around 200-300 for the update - mere speculation

Pass-thru, I have to agree with BLiZZNECK and say the navigation system is definitely worth the $2400. And, I never thought I'd say that. I've been used to using a Garmin and said I would continue doing that. I found the exact vehicle I wanted...one with the nav, one without. Test drove them both, and said I HAD TO HAVE THE NAV!! It's unbelievable, and so much more than a navigation system. I'd say test-drive one with it, and make up your own mind.

Before I get blasted from the pro-Nav crowd, let me say this: if you really want the nav, buy it. No point living with regret after the purchase is finalized.

Now, my point of view. I tried a truck with the nav and thought the features and performance was nice. But the sticker price of nearly $2500 made me think it's not worth it for me. A portable nav unit or my cell phone's nav feature (streamed via bluetooth) is a very nice trade off for me. I bought a truck with the Sony radio in it instead. As for the features of the nav, I'm not sorry at all to go without it. So in conclusion, my recommendation is to get a truck with the Sony radio, skip the nav, and save $2000.

I agree with this assessment too.

Yes, it is a matter of choice; if you like it, want it, have the money for it, then buy or order a truck with it.

For me, I think it is a lot of money for something I really will not use much and can live without.

I live in CA. I have lived/worked here all my life, grew up in SoCal and now live in the north. I know my state from top to bottom, like the back of my hand. Other than a trip to an adjacent state, I will most likely not take my truck and will fly and rent a car.

Today, my wife and I decided to make a trip to China Town in San Francisco. I went on line to Map Quest and punched in the directions from my residence to the intersection of Grant and Sacramento St.'s in the heart of China Town. I had a one page print out....left, right, left, right, right, left etc. and it worked perfectly for us.

Again, each to his/her own on this, but that is a lot of extra money for the dealer and an extra monthly payment amount.
I feel the same way about a $1K Moon Roof, if you want to really know.

Again, just another point of view, and not meant to **** anyone off !!

BTW, I got between 19.5 and 20.4 MPG today, on I-80, with cruise control set at about 68 MPH.

+1 more. I too was trying to figure out if I should get the Nav or not. I was all for it until I realized how much they were charging for the thing. Luckily for me the truck that had my preferred color combination didn't have it. Would I like to have it yes...if I can find one online for a decent price then I'll get it and have it installed at considerable savings, but I can't see spending $2,500 for something that essentially does the same thing as a $100 TomTom. Granted there are other features but I don't think they are worth the extra cash IMO.

For as much as I need the nav help the portable works just fine for only 200 or less and if you get the nav-mat it fits just fine in the tray on top of dash. And easy to remove when not using or move to another vehicle.

I love mine! Agree that it is expensive, but the features and integration work great for me. Keeps things simple. Fantastic large display (with multiple windows option), too. Good luck with your choice!
