Undercoating?

Undercoating?
Hi. New to the forum, and thinking about a new truck. I'm deciding which to get - GMC, Ford, Ram - and I must say, this forum is a factor. FMC should pay you guys a percentage.
So, to undercoating: I live in the snowy upstate NY, and salt is a major factor. If you've ever looked under your car up here, you can't help but be shocked. Rust, Baby!
Since this truck is likely to be a lifetime purchase, I want it to last. Do you guys think additional undercoating would help? Is it just hopeless? Does the basic undercoating the factory puts on, sufficient?
Thanks.

Save your money. I bought one in 2010 and paid extra for the undercoating and I looked under there and they didn't even do the whole area by the exhaust, when I said wtf Chuck! They said it gets too hot and melts and stinks and is a fire hazard. Would've been nice to know before hand I never would've done it. Just got a 13 f350 Platinum and asked about it just for giggles and they dais they don't even do it at all anymore, lol!
However there is an oil based undercoating that must be done yearly that Canadians swear by called krown or something, but I'm not sure if you can trust a beady eyed Canadian, Haha! Just kidding Canadians, you won't get it unless you listen to the Jason Ellis show on sirius.

Thanks, that's good info.
I must say, though, your reply was bittersweet. After my original post went for 89 looks without a reply, I was hoping to make 100. I thought I might try and set a record for the most looks without a single reply, but now you're gone and ruined it for me.
I guess rust on the undercarriage is just a price of living in God's country, or something like that. All in all, I'd rather have the snow, than not. I just wish the counties would come up with a non-rusting alternative for clearing snow off the roads.
