Default MyTouch vs Sony Navigation

I have heard that the 2013 F150's might have the Ford MyTouch system in them. Is this the same as the Sony Navigation system with the touch screen? If not, is the myTouch supposed to be quite a bit better than the current option that you can put in your truck?

Thanks!

The Ford My Touch system is the newest version. The new upgraded 2.0 version just came out. I have used it on a 2013 Edge. It seems to work great! There are photos of it on the 2013 F250 online. I really like the Nav system on the 2012 F150 though. I like the hard buttons for the heated/cooled seats. You don't have to hunt for them.

Is the 2012 F150 system upgradable to the Ford MyTouch? If not, do you think they'll continue to provide updates for our system?

2013 will no doubt see the MFT. However, If MFT is going to look the same as the new SuperDuty module all tilted out like a teleprompter I'd have that **** ripped out before it left the delivery bay. Either make it look nice or I don't want it, no functionality could trump great aesthetics in my opinion. (that's why I'd never drive a minivan). That being said, I do quite like the layout and functionality of the MFT in my Focus, even if it is sluggish and unresponsive most of the time. It cleans up the dash nice and really makes it feel upscale. The new software reflash will hopefully bring it up to snuff. The Superduty MFT module makes me want to cry it's so ugly, maybe that's just because the dash design is from 2007, who knows. I would think Ford would be smarter than to release something as ugly and out of place as that.

I do quite like the Sony nav as it sits, however the idea of a touchscreen like the sony nav without having to pay $3k for nav really appeals to me. Just make it look good Ford. If I were to buy my truck again I'd be tempted to pay the 3k for the touchscreen and clean, upscale look.

Default MyTouch vs Sony Navigation

The 2012 F150 system is not upgradable to the Ford My Touch. It is a different system. Ford has done updates on Nav systems in the past, however, it usually is not worth the cost. I have not heard of any updates. I will check into this.

A friend of mine has a 2012 Explore with the ford my touch and he has had all kind of problems. My Sony nav is going strong and I would not trade it for anything so if they switch I will be keeping my 2011 for a long time.

Tried to use my touch directions to get out of a sketchy area in Atlanta and it was a very obnoxious experience. Plugged in the Garmin to get the job done right.

In the news last week:

Now Ford has issued a major upgrade that redesigns much of what customers see on the screen and tries to resolve complaints about the system crashing or rebooting while the vehicle is being driven. Ford said on Monday that the upgrade made the touch screens respond to commands more quickly, improved voice recognition capabilities and simplified a design that some say had the potential to create more distractions for drivers who tried to use it on the road.

Fonts and buttons on the screen have been enlarged, and the layouts of more than 1,000 screens have been revamped.
“We expect that these improvements will put us back on track in the quality ratings,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president for global product development.

“It’s more than just an update. This is a substantial upgrade.”

Consumer Reports dropped Ford way down in their quality ratings this year, almost solely due to issues with and complexity of use of MFT. Glad to see the Ford execs are paying attention.

Of course the CR top pickup this year was the Avalanche, so that tells you where CR heads are at. Even the tundra was ahead of the F150. And the EB F150 was rated below the 5.0 (they dinged the F150 for no fulltime 4WD, they tested XLTs - Are you listening Ford execs?)
