It Stinks in Here...
Well I've been back to the shop for a week and no noise can be heard.
I don't know exactly how to react, I'm frustrated beyond belief.
I've been listening to this clatter inside the cab of the truck for over a month, and it just goes away......

Personally I hear injector noise for the most part, but there is a bit of background noise that I can't identify. The 5.4 is well known for loud injectors. On mine, they are not loud enough to hear in the cab with the windows up, but when the windows are down and you are close to on outside object, you will hear the sound bounce off that object. They don't call them the 5.4 Powerstroke for nothing.
But it's the lower pitched ticking/clattering that's worrying. It definitely sounds similar to the cam phaser noise the 04-08 5.4s do.
