My BakFlip Leaks (Pics). Does yours? Any ideas to help fix it?
I was in a different thread and mentioned my BakFlip leaked. Someone directed me to another thread but I thought it might be worth opening a new topic in case others are expereincing the same issues. I'm really hoping someone can offer me a home remedy to fix this without making a bigger fuss with the vender. I totally want this fixed but its just not doing what its supposed to do. And I think I'm reasonable, I expect *some* water to come in, but this seems excessive. Can I compare it to the amount of water coming in to your beds please?
I want to say first, that I did contact the dealer and they did ship me a new unit. However, the new unit's latches on the last panel were out of alignment and the cover wouldn't close (without extreme force). So I sent it back. It was boxed up and sealed before they told me I could adjust the alignment myself but I didn't want to cause damage and be responsible for it, so I didn't unbox it and try their fix. And while they haven't said they wouldn't send another; I also haven't asked because I feel like I'm being a total PITA. I'm very disappointed, I can't use the back of the truck during a rain at all.
Here's the problem, in pictures:
Water seems to mostly leak in from the area pointed to here. It used to come in at the window area but when they sent me the 2nd unit there was a piece of thicker weather stripping and that seems to have cleaned things up quite a bit.
Most of the water seems to be coming in from this general hinge.
On the bottom side, you can see the water leaking in from underneith.
So water ultimately just puddles up in the front of the bed since even on a flat parking lot (like the airport, which is where this was taken), the front end of the truck is lower than the back. We had gotten a thunderstorm in the DFW area on the morning this was taken. Maybe it rained another time over the weekend while I was gone, but there is 1.5 inches of water standing in the back. The entire picture has standing water (its just really still, so you sorta have to look for it). I left a nice splash when I pulled away.
On a different day, I took a picture of the water 'shedding' out of the rear of the truck. This is why I can't put groceries or suitcases in the back if its raining ... because the water moves around in the bed of the truck. You can totally see the water leaks in at the middle of the bed (on that hinge) because its coming down the wheel well.
And on a complete side note, the 'insulation' or whatever is under this edge seems to be slowly getting pushed out. Looks like a quality issue, which is about the only reason I really want to call and ask for another unit right now.
Note: The pictures above were taken from two different storms and with both units they sent me. The largest puddle of water was when they sent me a replacement that didn't latch properly. Two pictures above this line is my current water shed.
And for what its worth, I'm certainly not trying to bash this vender, they have been nice to me. We just haven't found a solution to the issue yet. I'm hoping you guys might have some experience since it seems to be a pretty popular product.
Finally, this isn't a bashing thread. We all know this product rocks. I just want to hear your experiences and hopefully find a few suggestions to help me out with the problem.

The drain tubes are there, they're just at the front of the bed. And occassionally I see a little moisture in them. But the water seems to be leaking in from an area that wouldn't normally get redirected from the rails. You can see them in this picture.

Bummer about the Bakflip. Tell us about the bed lights. I want some although I'm not a fan of that wiring.

I wouldn't keep a $1000 piece of ****. I would let them know I am going to be a PINTA untill it is working leak free or I get my all $$$ back.
I thought the drain tubes went at and through the front of the bed.

Wow sharper 4 that is a lot of water. Is that the BAK flip G2 or the HD? I have a 2005 stx with the G2 cover and I did not use the drain tubes. I get a little water in the front of the bed during downpours but no where near that. I noticed you have a drop in bed liner I have a spray in. I wonder if it has anything to do with that? Also look slike you have a 2009 or 2010 truck are the beds different on those than mine? I'm not sure haven't seen a 2009 or 2010 close up yet.

I thought I made clear that I expect some water to come in, which is sorta why this thread exists. Others are saying that they are getting "drops" of water, yet I have 1.5 inches of standing water. Does that sound like I want a water tight bed? The product says it'll keep the bed dry but its not. If you can't help, just move along to someone else's thread. I'm totally reasonable that this is not a moisture free product but it should live up to its literature. And its not unfair for me to ask on this forum if others have found a way around the problem because that's exactly what this forum is about.
