Default 4x4 vs. 4x4 Off Road

What's the difference between an F-150 that just says 4x4 and the one that says 4x4 Off Road? Is that maybe a package that has more skid plates or other extras like that?

Why would Ford put a boat anchor of an open diff in the rear of a 4x4? The front I get, but not the rear

Mine is a 3.55 with limited slip axle. Is that the same as a limited slip differential? Is it only in the rear and the fwd axle is open?

Cause it's locking rear axel. Plus they say the traction control makes it act as ls. I would rather have ls to but I did know it was open till after I had the truck

A 4x4 offroad gets the same Electronic locking diff that the FX4's get but in a non-FX4 package.

So here goes (2011 models)

Locking Diff- Is used when the operator is in 4 wheel drive, just put it in 4hi and pull the ****, locks both wheels into turning. At 35mph this shuts off. Although their is a thread that shows buying the raptor **** and the raptor 4x4 brain box so you can engage diff lock in 2 wheel.

Limited Slip- Actual gearing in the pumpking to make both tires spin at the same time. It's mechanical.

One Wheel Spin Control- This is on every open differential and CANNOT be shut off. It brakes one wheel to give power to another wheel so it "acts" like limited slip. Although I've played with this cause it's what I have, and with one wheel in gravel and one on pavement you will leave a black mark and throw gravel everywhere! (traction control off) Very impressed with this feature cause it works great and no worry about Limited slip diffs failing.

Traction control- this is the button on your dash and it only governs the motor to make it so you can't slip. So with limited slip or One wheel spin control your motor basically bogs down so your tires don't break lose.

You'll hear a lot of opinions but I think their all great!
