Default max tow package

I am ready to order a new 2009 f-150 supercrew lariat with the max tow package. Which states the package includes upgraded rear springs. I was wondering if anyone has this package and can tell me if the trucks rides any harder then with the stock tow package. And you have to get the 3.73 gears. Does anyone have any gas milage numbers not towing with the 5.4 and 3.73.
I really only want the tow side mirrors but you can not get them without the max tow package. Thanks Frank

I too want the tow mirrors (and brake controller) but don't need the max tow package. I drove one with the max tow package at the dealer and the ride quality seemed very good to me. However I'm comparing that to my 98' F150.

I know I can add the brake controller but the mirrors would likely be very expensive to change out.

I too am curious about mileage since my truck will be a daily driver.

My FX4 has the 3.73s and on my commute- 58 miles roundtrip at ave. hwy speeds of 60 mph, 85% -90% hwy I'm getting 18-19 mpg. Heck, the RPMs don't reach 2000RPM till 75 mph. Personally, I wouldn't want any higher gear ratio for towing.

Thanks for the replys, 18-19mpg sounds about right, I get 18mpg at 70mph with my 2005 dodge hemi and that has 3.92 gears with 20'' tires. The max tow package is only $100, the tow mirrors are $140, and brake controller is $230. I went to another dealer and he had a F-150 in stock with the max tow package and when I drove it I could not tell any difference in the ride. He stated that the spring rate is set up to handle more weight when the bed is loaded.

I too have ordered an 09 with max tow and 3.73 gears. I have no qualms about the 3.73 since that is what came standard in my Lightning and it has a good range through the gears.

We have the 09 XLT with the max tow package & integrated brake controller with the 3.73s and the tow mirrors. I only filled the tank for the 3rd time this morning, but so far in town driving is about 14 mpg.

the tow mirrors are great, though being able to fold them in electronically would be better.

How about it. I picked my XLT up today and those mirrors are frickin huge. They seem to get bigger the more I drive, lol

Seriously though, the mirrors will be awesome for trailering but an automatic folding feature would have been well worth any added cost.

I have max tow on mine. I did not notice any ride difference from the one that I test drove without it.

Thumbs up

Yesterday I took my new 2009 F-150 XLT Crew 4x4 w/Max Tow Package on it's first off road adventure on washboard and sandy trails out in the desert and was very impressed with the suspension and smoothness of
the ride.

This was in comparison to my 2005 F-150 XLT 2WD and 2006 Xterra 4x4 Offroad edition.
