Low Fuel Warning - When
#5
Hell mines had came on one time before with 89 miles to empty and one time before with 67 miles to empty. So I don't know in that case for me to be honest. I normally fill up when it gets to 100 miles to empty. Don't like leaving tank too close to Empty during the cold months.

Ok thanks guys. I am close to the end of tank 4. My goal is to get a much of it burned out as possible - I am doing unscientific gasoline test.
My tanks 1 and 4 have been utopia and excellent MPG.
My tanks 2 and 3 were terrible, I mean really bad; both those bad tanks from the same station.
Thanks

Yeah its a b!+ch standing out in the cold filling up in the winter months. And then you have the condensation issues inside the tank itself...not good in the long haul

From Green to Orange at 47 miles to empty
Ok, the Low Fuel warning light came on at 47 miles to empty. The miles to empty changes from green to orange and an orange gas pump lights up. Hit “OK” and miles to empty turns green again. At 37 miles to empty it turns orange again. This time after hitting “ok” and back to green, stopping at a store, come back and start the truck it begins as orange.
Around the 50 miles to empty the engine is making a little noise (air swishing, valves gurgling, or some light noise), and engine not quite as peppy, and mpgs starting to fall a lot. By the time it gets down to 35 miles to empty it begins running very ruff, power is way low, and the engine noise is louder (more gurgling to me). A couple of times under very mild acceleration I thought the engine was going to die it became so ruff.
At that point forward I drove “light footed” to the Kroger station I was headed for on my little round trip. With the dash saying 33 miles to empty it took 24.334 gallons to fill up. Upon start up it said something like 465 miles to empty - green. The trip back home is about 1.5 miles, within that trip the engine became 100% silent again and very peppy. There was one spell of some engine roughness one time when I turned a corner.
The whole goal of this exercise was to get rid of tanks 2 and 3. At the end of “each” of those tanks the miles to empty were about 93 and 89 respectfully. So in theory, I was left with about 1.5 gallons of bad fuel from tanks 2 and 3. Tank 1 was from the dealer, Tank 4 from a Kroger in Plano TX (north Dallas). The bad gas tanks 2 and 3 were from the same Shell station close to home.
Time will tell if tank 5 is as good as tanks 1 and 4. If the truck runs as good as it did on tanks 1 and 4, then to me that pretty clearly defines the effects of bad or marginal gas in the EcoBoost – it don’t like it one bit.
I’ve got 465 miles to find out. LOL
