Low Budget retrofit headlight build

Low Budget retrofit headlight build
So because I like little projects to keep me busy and thanks to this forum, I decided to retrofit a set of headlights. Mainly this was cause with my dissatisfaction with my oem headlights on my 2010 f150. I couldn't justify spending 700-1000 dollars to have someone else do the work, so I decided to give it a try. I started out with buying a set of the fx4 black housing headlights from eBay. Then I bought the acme h1 complete projector system with 4300k 35w hids from www.theretrofitsource.com.
This is my first attempt at doing anything like this so it will be a slow process as I only have a hour or so a day to work on them in between watching my daughter and work. So far I've baked the headlights, got them disassembled and begun to mount the projectors. My goal was an inexpensive retrofit that will be reliable and an upgrade from the oem halogens.
As I progress I'll add photos and updates. Wish me luck

Great timing! I was able to pick up a cheap set of oem headlights and was just looking at the acme retrofit kit last night; I figure I'll keep things inexpensive since it'll be my first attempt at a retrofit. Good luck, and I look forward to checking in on your progress!

I am in the same situation. I have a 2010 f150 and am not at all happy with the stock lights. I am 62 and have bad vision already, but compared to my 2008 Avalon (don't hate me...) the trucks lights are really poor.
I am also looking at the retrofit source but since my main problem is not seeing the lines between lanes particularly when raining and my truck does not have fog lights I plan to do a set of their LED fog lamps first and see how that works out before going to the full projector upgrade.
Then I will probably go ahead and bite the bullet and get the Morimoto stage IV kit.....$430.00 is a lot to swallow but for the amount of work required to install the projectors I guess I can justify the extra expense, particularly if it results in longer bulb life.
I will be following all these light threads closely and will of course post up my own results when I do the work.
Good luck with your swap and hope you are happy with the results.
PS major thanks to this and another board, when I first started looking at upgrades I was unaware of the problems of just doing a bulb change with stock reflectors and almost went that route.....Imagine my 60 yr old *** driving around pissing everyone off, like kid in a Honda with HID's and a fart can

I'm doing the same thing on my spec D housing. I've heard the acme mh1 supers are a big upgrade though, so I plan on doing those instead. Already have hylux ballasts and morimoto bulbs.
