Default Cabin odor after sitting overnight

As the title says, when I leave my '10 FX4 sit overnight it develops a fairly strong odor. It's not sweet like anti-freeze but honestly smells like musty trash. Running the heat resolves it within seconds, but I can't figure out what it is.

It only smells after sitting over night and even leaving it sit for 9 hours while at work doesn't seem to cause it. I'm stumped so I thought I would ask you guys. I do have an appointment with the dealer next week. I figure I would poke around before I take it in to see if it's something I can identify.

Thanks

perhaps the infamous third brake light leak? I didn't know mine was leaking until I touched the roof liner and water soaked through...Just a thought!

I was going to sugest the same thing. Remove your spare tire jack from the cubby, and put a dry paper towel in there...see if it comes out wet...

Funny, I actually had that leak in my 2008 I checked the headliner straight away thinking the same, but it's dry. My first thought was something in the duct work, but that wouldn't go away when I turn the heat or AC on (I don't think). I've gone so far as to stick my nose on damn near every piece of carpet & leather in there

Any chance it's just the leather smell?

Even if you've owned other vehicles w/ leather interiors, different tanning agents or even different color dyes could make a smell you're not used to.

Do you go to the gym after work? That funk you smell might be your *** sweat from the night before.

Nope

Timeless - Just yanked the spare kit and looked for any water, bone dry.

Gun - Possibly so, I had a KR before this so I haven't had pleather in some time. I can't imagine it would smell like this though and only smell when I let it sit overnight. I also read that Ford switched to soy based foam in 2009, maybe that it is...I really don't know.

How long have you had your truck and how many miles?

It's more than likely mold in your AC ducts causing this smell. There are many specifically auto products made to spray in to the intake ducts but Lysol works as well as anything. Turn on the vehicle and the AC, spray into the intake at the base of the windshield, then turn off the vehicle, spray in a bit more --- and let the vehicle sit overnight. When you leave the next day, give it some time running the AC before you leave, and I'll bet the smell is gone!

Two months with 3500 on the dial. The truck was manufactured in late September so didn't sit on the lot long.

Sterling - That's what I'm thinking as well, I'll let the dealership take a look anyway.
