Loud turn signals and chime - How to quiet them down
I didn't mind the turn signals at first, but then they started to get annoying. So I went and snooped around the instrument cluster to find the source. That loud *** sound comes from a tiny speaker on the back of the instrument cluster. So...let's get to it.
Unbolt the two top bolts on the instrument cluster surround. They point ^ towards the roof. Pull the trim piece out. It is connected to the upper piece of the steering column trim, it is very easy to take off. Set aside. There are 4 bolts holding the instrument cluster in place. They are easy to find..there is 2 in the lower bottom corners of the cluster, and two up at the top that are easy to get to. Take these off (7 or 8 mm I believe) and pull the instrument cluster out, and turn the bottom towards you to pull out. Unplug the harness.
Now, you will see a small speaker on the speedometer side of the back of the cluster..Very easy to see. Putting a piece of foam and duct tape over it will do nothing for you. You will need some real insulation in there..I stuffed a piece of an old perforated vinyl chamois rag and some polyfill in the speaker hole, and put about 20,000 layers of aluminum tape over it. Every few layers I also taped on a piece of the chamois. Once that's done, re-install into your dash and bolt everything back on. My method only made the chime and signal slightly quieter, so pick up a little piece of Roxul or Dynamat, or something that will really muffle the sound. Very straight forward, cheap and fast mod.

Excellent. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
That's impressive that this little bastard will sound just a loud after all the tape and foam.

If you don't mind, just take the little speaker off. You will lose all chimes but some may be ok with that.

Instrument cluster reinstalled ok? Figure it would not sit flush after all that tape. Would be funny if you somehow shorted the cluster using the aluminum tape and it touched something through the vent holes...lol.

Seems to me like it could be reprogrammed to tone it down. I know they have an app you can d/l to your pc to send to the truck via usb thumb drive to turn the volume down on the sync sounds. Hmm maybe call the dealer and see if they have a tsb.
I may actually inquire about it myself because it's like listening to the Budweiser Clydesdales marching in a parade. Clip Clop Clip Clop with the blinkers.

This thread is great hardcore! For 2 reasons...
1. People that want to can now quiet their signals/chimes.
and, my favorite
2. I now have a thread to go to, when I'm trying to prove to a forum member that this\/ is NOT the blinker/chime speaker!! So many think it is!

That right there is a temperature sensor...or something. But not the chime speaker. I believe even on 09-10 models the speaker is in the same place. But yeah, super simple to do and quiets down those irritating turn signals!

oh you are right. that's exactly what it is, I've actually taken it all apart and took pictures just to show people that's what is. Lol. I'm just saying that I can now refer to this thread when I get into another pissing match with another member on here, who insists that it is the speaker for the blinkers and or chime. because you clearly shown that that's not its location.
