Looking at General Grabber AT2 or Cooper AT3
Hi,
Would like to get a set of all terrains on my truck. Kind of doing my research and watching prices waiting for a deal to jump on. My stockers have some life left to them just wanting something better. I have considered the Cooper AT3s and the General Grabber AT2s. Reviews for both seem to be good but a couple people I talked to who run the cooper AT3s didn't care for them. Anybody run both here? Your thoughts? Ultimately may come down to the best price I can get locally between the two of them. The General Grabber AT2s come in a standard tire or a load range E. I don't think I need the load range E but was hoping for something a little stiffer than a P rated tire. I run about 25000 miles a year and do a lot of highway driving. I occasionally pull trailers up to 8-9k lbs short distances and have noticed the stock goodyears to be a little squishy. I would like something a little firmer under load but don't want to lug the extra 13lbs per tire weight difference of an E load rating. I see the AT3 comes with a C load rating which may be ideal. I live in snow country and will be building a home in the spring on an acreage I purchased so will be dealing with a lot of mud at the construction site. I will not be off roading to the point where I need super strong sidewalls to prevent puncture damage. Just highway, gravel, dirt and mud. Thanks for your input.

What size tire are thinking about? I find load range ratings have a lot to do with tire size. Once you get into the larger sizes most tires are load range E, unfortunately. I'm kind of in the same boat myself, I want a more aggressive AT in a larger size, I don't need an E tire, but I can't find the sizes I want in any other load rating.

Just bought a set of those Cooper AT3s for the gf's Grand Cherokee today. $730 mounted and out the door at Tire Discounters... Pretty good deal. I'd stick to a 10 ply for a truck tho. I run BFG A/T KOs and love em. They got a great deal on those too. Wanted them to swap my 265/70R17s to her jeep and go up to a 33" KO, but running a 10ply on a GC would be really rough.

I got the AT3s, not crazy about them! Had 2 tires out of round, when I bought new from Tire Plaza in Festus, MO.... Took me 2 weeks to convince them, the 2 tires were bad after paying my Ford dealer road force balance them( or lack there of).
Im going to pickup some Bridgestone Duelers HTs or ATs, after these Coopers are fairly shot!

I don't think I want to run load range E on a half ton. Not interested in harshining my ride as 90 percent of my travel is long distance highway. Just wouldn't mind getting something with a little stiffer sidewall then the stock goodyear SRAs. I really wish I could get some stellar reviews of the AT3 as that is the tire the local store usually runs specials on.

I have AT3s - they're much heavier than stockish tires, and will hurt your gas mileage (if that matters to you).
I don't find them to be good in the rain.
They look good - IMO.

AT3 were once at the top of my list for my next tire, but the more I researched, the more issues I read about. I have not seen a tire with a more divided amount of reviews, it seems half the people think they are great and the other half has had a terrible experience with them. Now I am taking a serious look at the Grabber AT2's.

It was bad as they filled them to 60psi and I dropped it to 35. It rode better and didn't bounce all over but was still rough.
