Befor you buy an Eco, do some research through this forum. Most do not have any issues whatsoever. There are a few that have legitimate problems. Don't be run off from the Eco by "end of the worlders" saying that all of the engines have problems. There might only be one legitimate problem I can think of that seems to be only an Eco problem. That's the brake vaccuum pump behind the driver's headlight that will quit unexpectantly. The few people that have posted their results on here show what appears to be extreme degredation due to road salt/chemicals.

If you do decide against an Eco, my advice would be the 6.2 since you'll be hauling stuff. Don't get me wrong, the 5.0 would do the job, but it would be working harder than the Eco or the 6.2. Good luck in your search and decision.

whats the difference in eco boost or flex fuel and is the xlt way better then all the types? Eco hands down has the most torque and pulling power stock over the old(09-10) 5.4, 4.6, and the new(11-14) 5.0,3.7. However many will argue and its been proven the ECO boost isn't really very eco and if you drive normal a 5.0 will normally get the same mpg without having to deal with the risks of turbos going bad. The 5.4, and 4.6 won't get the worst mileage but compared to the 2011+ engines are nowhere near the same power. The XLT is the middle of the road model. It has nice features but isn't the cream of the crop. 09-10 you could get sync and power i believe that 2013 and above you could get leather seats in the XLT so if you need leather 2013 is the way to go. If you get an XLT however its very easy to upgrade and essentially make into a lariat. Clazzio leather seat covers an iPad dash an you basically have a lariat.

is there anything I should stay away from? and why? The 5.4 in the 09-10 trucks from what i've heard and personal experience is pretty reliable like i said you won't win any speed competitions but it will do the job without complaint. However the first Ecoboosts which were in the 11-12 models have been known to have a problem with the turbos i believe that caused them to go into limp mode in humid conditions. However ford did fix this for 2013 my father has one which was a farm truck 2013 Lariat Eco an has 70k miles on it without a single problem

towing package? If you tow alot get max tow i think its up to 11k pounds for the eco with the 3.73 rear end. I think the (11-14)5.0 and (09-10)5.4 are able to tow 9-10k pounds.
Also buy tow mirrors if the truck doesn't come with them. You can normally find a set on eBay for around 200 there great and eliminate all blindspots a must i believe if you ever tow.

engine size? what do most buy? Most popular has been the eco in 11-14 models.
However the (11-14)5.0 is a great little powertrain. Again it depends how much you tow and in what conditions. If your towing up mountains with serious weight then id say eco if your towing under 4-5k pounds on flat ground then the 5.0 will do just fine. 5.4 will do just about everything the other two will however its way less efficient if your towing with a (09-10)5.4 expect 10 mpg all day.

any recalls in the 2009-2014 that I should ask about to the dealer? From what i've heard i believe the 09-14 were really good. I know theres the stupid third brake light that leaks and i forget if their was one for the 11 ecoboosts.

How much are you going to actually work it? Do you use another truck for carrying the wood, and just towing a trailer with the 150?
Just curious how much of a beating it's gonna take.

Do not buy a 2011 Ecoboost! First year for them and full of issues. I believe the later ones are good though.

There is issues with ALOT of 2013-14 with battery drain. if you looking for a f150 i would go with a 2015. I have a 2013 with a battery drain, it does have a drain i have tested and had a shop test it according to fords service manual but ford states that " it's within ford parameters\specifications" BS.... they refuse to fix it. it seems like it takes an act of good to get for to fix anything on their trucks, at least that's been my experience... so beware
