Well with the older engine you should be able to get into a 2010 for low 20s no problem. I have had two 5.4 engines and they will tow well. I recommend a 3.73 axle for towing a travel trailer though. The 5.4 engine will be much stronger than your 4.6 down low in the power band.

I would hold out and get the newest used you can afford with the oldest being 2011, the newest engines were introduced in 11 so can still be had with very low mileage and the remainder of factory warranty, at least anything under 36k you'll have a chance to work out any kinks under warranty as to avoid extra costs from unknown surprises

Also judging from your driving style you might consider the 3.7 v6?

I liked the truck, it was a completely loaded 4x4 Lariat so it was pretty nice. Truck ran good, was really nothing wrong with it when I traded it in. The dealer made me a great deal on the trade for the new Platinum. The 2009 was low mileage and they sold it the next day after I traded it in.

Some of you mentioned getting the ecoboost. Are those engines still having problems though?

Martha, I agree with my friend [MENTION=173075]OMAC[/MENTION]. If your looking for a pre-owned I suggest look no farther back than than a 2011 if your finances allow. The newer engines are much more efficient. As far as the Ecoboost some of them are still having problems, but that is rare. The newer you get the less chance of those problems. In my humble opinion I would say stay with the 5.0L as you aren't planning on towing that much, and the weight your planning to tow the engine will be fine at a cheaper price. The gas mileage between the two is very little. Also, I understand your problem to the chemicals from the new truck, but I will say that the smell in the last two new F-150's I owned didn't last long at all. Good luck in your search.

And I agree, the upgrades in the luxury trucks are very nice.

I'd go with the 5.0 if I were you for the amount you wanna tow and like some have said the mpg isn't that big a difference between the 2. I'd also suggest at least 3.55 gears. 3.73 would be best but not entirely necessary.
For myself, I went with the ecoboost because I planned/plan on getting a larger tt and a landscape trailer and running my own landscape business next year. Plus I like the turbo whistle lol

Thank you all. I have a lot to consider here. (my husband doesn't get into any of this - hee hee.)

We live in southern, NM and there is only 1 Ford dealer in town. The next closest are 70 miles away. The dealer in town did a bait and switch on us and said the vehicle we came to see had sold of course yet it's still online being misrepresented. (online they are calling it an ecoboost yet Ford had sent me pictures of the exact same vehicle as a 5.0L so who knows what it really is.

I've checked and checked and checked and there are only 4 F150s in our entire town that are used (2 at the Dodge dealer and 2 at the Nissan dealer) and none what I want so we just have to wait. The Ford dealer had no used ones. Even Craiglist shows nothing else except really old ones.

I've also looked online at the dealers 70 miles away and didn't see anything I liked there either so.... it's not easy finding what you want here.
