Lightning bolt hits my truck
https://www.f150forum.com/f2/lightni...-truck-172319/
not relevant to the f150:
I work @ Addison Airport in N. Dallas approx. 5 years ago this truck ISUZU
NPR Diesel 1000 gal AVGAS LL100 Refuel Truck w/ electronic brake /engine /sensors /engine controls / Safety Interlocks etc. etc. took a indirect hit by lighting. Bolt hit the ground approx. Two feet from the truck / blasted thru 4 inches of asphalt to the concrete base ran for 20 yards or so and exited back out blowing a exit hole .
Every sensor & computer was fried. Took 2 weeks & over 10k to get it fully functional.
Everything was great for approx. 5years. Then for no found cause:

I was thinking the same thing, more like someone left a fuel line loose doing a filter change or some other human mistake.
That's the good thing about a lightening or any other type of electrical surge, what ever happens, happens right NOW not 5 years later.

Two weeks in. The Service Dept. has replaced two modules at a cost of about $2000. The truck now cranks and the dash lights up, but there are still issues. The next step is to replace the Body Control Module. I asked and they said they are not sure it will fix it...probably not.
For the record, I have a rented 2014 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with their v-6. Not a fair comparison to a Lariat, but it does confirm I don't want a Chevy. It rides like an empty one ton compared to my truck.

wait. what?
my dad had both his '94 Ranger and '97 Grand Cherokee hit by lightning when they were parked under a tree that got stuck in like 2005. both of them were complete wackjobs afterward, constantly blowing fuses and light bulbs. he threw so much money at them because before then they were great reliable daily drivers, but they were never the same after that and he only had liability on them.

There are dozens of semi-conductor devices in the electrical systems, the twisty wire system interconnects all of them , trade it I would.

If they can't fix it right then contact the insurance company and ask that it be totalled and that they cut you a check.

I owned a IT company for 26 years, we dealt with numerous lighting strikes. We learned over years to recommend to replace any equipment from a lighting strike. We could get most stuff going again but we knew it would never work again as designed. Lighting can be as bad as flooding.

1. Plug everything into a QUALITY surge suppressor, if not an UPS.
2. UNPLUG everything from the wall, physically, during a lightning storm.
Did a call for a guy about 10 years ago who owned a lake house. He did exactly as I suggested above...EXCEPT he forgot ONE phone cord.
Lightning came into the phone cord, ran through his computer (blowing up everything attached to it), and from his sound jack to his living room speaker system which was ALSO attached to his LCD TV.
The total damages came down to about $27K. All because he forgot to unplug one cable. The few things that did NOT get affected, failed no more than a month later.

The Trans PCM, the fuel system &PCM, the ECU and Dash Components + Heater and Head Unit: All interconnected along with the Components of the Body and Brake system. All slaved and Semiconductors / micro managers. One Big Headache I believe. I once looked inside a TV that had been part of a Bolt hit and U could see the fire going across the circuits Bzzzzz Bzzzzz Crack. One just doesn't know for sure all the exact things that can happen. It can be bad or worse. In that exact instant millions of volts are pushing to ground and jumping tremendous distances, the resistance to ground is erased.
