Default Lightning Strike to 11 Ecoboost Lariat

Has anyone had experience with their truck after a lightning strike? Mine was hit last week and they are starting the repair at the local dealer. It is a 2011 non-navigation Lariat with most all the other options. It is an Ecoboost in perfect shape (was) and has 62k miles.

I am worried about keeping the truck, even if they "repair" it. I have a wife and a 16 year old daughter whom I do not want to see stranded somewhere (or worse) in it.

I'm thinking there will always be issues with the electrical from now on.

Thoughts?

Insurance. See if your comprehensive (Other than Collision) will help you out with depreciation, replacement, or anything at all.

Homeowners insurance would be a long shot since the vehicle has separate insurance but if it happened on your property it's worth a try.

Guy I used to work with had his Dodge hit at an apartment carport. Took out several vehicles.
Melted stereo and other interior parts when the wiring caught on fire.
His insurance totalled it.

I'm an insurance agent so I have that angle under control. Just not sure whether to keep it if it is not totaled.

I love my truck! The thought of trading it in is like shooting your dog and then buying another...I'm just trying to see if my dog now has "rabies"!

It was not a "melt stuff" sort of strike. No outward signs, as the strike hit a light pole and came into my truck parked next to it. Nothing but the radio worked, however.

I wouldn't keep it personally.

I had to repair a lightning strike powerstroke diesel once and it was a nightmare, after replacing every single computer module and a couple of sensors it was good as new and the customer was a regular so we did all the maintenance and as far as I know it's still on the road, this happened 15 years ago.

It was also an indirect hit, hit the ground next to the truck and arced into it thru the exhaust, fried the back pressure sensor taking out vref for the whole system, took a while to narrow it down and considering the overall cost of the truck, insurance would not total it.

Lightning bolt hits my truck

https://www.f150forum.com/f2/lightni...-truck-172319/

not relevant to the f150:

I work @ Addison Airport in N. Dallas approx. 5 years ago this truck ISUZU
NPR Diesel 1000 gal AVGAS LL100 Refuel Truck w/ electronic brake /engine /sensors /engine controls / Safety Interlocks etc. etc. took a indirect hit by lighting. Bolt hit the ground approx. Two feet from the truck / blasted thru 4 inches of asphalt to the concrete base ran for 20 yards or so and exited back out blowing a exit hole .

Every sensor & computer was fried. Took 2 weeks & over 10k to get it fully functional.

Everything was great for approx. 5years. Then for no found cause:

Holy Crap that sucks! I'm afraid I'd have to get rid of it. I can't see being able to replace all electrical that is damaged in 1 or 2 trys. I'd just have trouble trusting it after that.
