Default lift assist.

After looking at the sticker that came on my f-150, I noticed it said removable tailgate with lift assist. My tailgate feels just like any other tailgate. what is this lift assist? Than i noticed at the dealership almost all of the f-150's said this but all the tailgates were just normal tailgates... am i missing something?

The tailgate on my 09 has the step and its a lot easier to lift than my old 98 XLT. There is a torsion spring inside the tailgate that assists about the first 2/3's of the way while lifting it from the down position.

The lift assist does not make the tailgate feel lite just helps a little. The tailgates are much taller and heavier on the new trucks than they were on the old trucks.

Default Lift Assit Does Something

I noticed the ...with Lift Assit tag line too. However it works, it works well. I can close the tail gate on my 09 F150 with one hand. My Dad has an 2000 Ford Ranger and I need two hands to close the tail gate on the Ranger.

Does the tailgate feel like its heavy? Like say on any older model? 04 or older, then go back to yours. You will know if its working or not. If it feels the same as the older models, then you have something wrong. your torsion rod could be broken. Or something came loose. Your best bet would be to bring it in

I don't know if there is any adjustment. You want to take it back to the dealer and have it checked out.

I have the tailgate step in mine and its definitely easier to lift than any other tailgate I've ever tried. Even my wife was surprised.

Liftassist is awesome and def working on my 06.

My truck I can shut the tailgate with my pinky.

My roommates truck I have to use both hands and then give it a shoulder nudge....

Wow, I thought it had a really light tailgate. I just switched from a F-250....it had a two handed grunt requirement to close it.
