That is awesome, Vinny. I got my license years ago, but never did anything with it.

The Ram Mount I used has a 4 inch arm. Which works perfectly for this application.

I got a kenwood TM710GA on the way to me. I am excited!! I may do the ram mount or just mount it on the center arm rest.

For my installation, the Ram Mount works perfectly for providing proper angle to see the screen while driving without too much effort, even with my polarized sunglasses on

Default Here is what I am doing with an old Icom.

Icom 2330 mounted between console and radio bezel.
I added the console as well as the dual bander. I still need to connect the power and antenna.

I installed this about 6 months ago and it's been great. My idea of a good setup is to be functional, but I want it to blend in when not in use. Not a ham radio, but it's a UHF CDM1550 LS+ for fire/rescue. It is mounted under the passenger seat and has a remote head adapter.

Howdy all, first post and man am I glad to have found this post.

I've a '18 SCrew 5.5' and I'm getting ready to install a Yaesu FT-8800R and future HF rig. I have been wondering about HF antenna mounting locations, but a post above took care of my reservations about the forward bed pockets. I'll have a couple Firestik mounts ordered up soon for those. Kudos sigma_pi and PowerHouse!

My more pressing question is - what are the safe spots to mount a radio on the back wall? I pulled off the insulation piece over the weekend and that back wall sure as heck to me feels like it's just single wall metal. I've seen a couple remote mounts here so far with radios mounted directly to the insulation backer - are those only mounted to that backer or are they screwed into the back wall as well?

Also, I have the STX package so I have the center console with column shifter - is there space inside that console to mount radios and is there enough airflow to keep them from overheating?

Thanks all and I look forward to being able to help elsewhere once I get more time in the truck and the forums!
