Led Fog lights

LED bulbs, just FYI, do not work well for fog lights. They offer almost no distance in their light patterns and are mostly there for aesthetics and looking pretty than anything. They are plenty bright, but they do not project light down the road well at all, which is what you want with a fog light.
My last car had plastic fog light housings so HID's and other good bulbs could not be used as they would melt the plastic around them. I bought LED bulbs to match the HID's in the headlights and while they did match in color, they offered ZERO benefit in visibility at all. They were plenty bright at the bulb and appeared nice, but that was it.

As a matter of fact I use a 90 degree firefighter light that uses 1 LED but with a focused housing is super bright and can throw light far away.

so reading this thread gave me an idea. what if you swaped out the stock fog lights for the the 10" led light bad from Rigid Industry's. but the only thing i could think of is that they would be to bright for on road use. but if you aimed them down towards the ground more would that produce more light output than stock bulbs?

I work in an industry where we train law enforcement, military, and firefighters. Working with them in both day and night time conditions we've train under simulated (fire, combat, and defensive) situations where we had smoke, haze, fog, mist, rain, snow, and you name it. The LED technology is just not up there with Incan. The light spectrum is different on LEDs and it is less effective in cutting through those environmental conditions like the old Incan technology. I didn't say it wouldn't work, I just said our tests clearly showed it didn't work as effectively. We've had electrical engineers and Ph.Ds working with us on our experiments and even they couldn't believe the difference.
LED is the way of the future but until they can perfect the light spectrum and make it on par with the old Incan technology it just isn't as effective.
