Straight Pipe 5.0??
I got a 2013 fx4 with the 5.0 and I'm thinking about making it straight pipe cause although I love the sound of custom exhuast, I don't love the price. I've watched a bunch of youtube videos and I love the sound of the straight pipe but I'm concerned that it'll be too loud. My favorite custom exhuast is the Flowmaster 40 series SIDO with 3 inch tip, if the sound level is similar thats what im looking for.
Any suggestions?

Straight pipe is too much in my opinion. I did it on my 02 with the 5.4 and my flowmaster on my 09 sounds so much better but I'm still able to hear myself think when I have to get on it.

straight pipe on the new 5.0's sounds great at idle, but not much above that it gets crazy loud, from crazy loud it goes to stupid loud, not long after that it becomes obnoxiously loud. after you get past crazy loud, there is no real tone to it either. its just blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
to put it mildly, the coyote is just LOUD. I tried it and it was not worth it at all.

Mine sounds amazing. Don't trash the coyote till you've heard it in the better platform.
Okay, I've heard it, and it's too loud. But that's personal preference. FWIW, I've had Flowmaster 40s and several versions of Spintech cat-backs on V8 trucks over the years, and maybe I'm old, but I just got to the point that anything much louder than stock is just too loud - both inside the cab and outside the cab.
Generally, and again no offense intended, I think that loud exhausts are annoying noises that add to an already noisy world. The 5.0 sounds really great stock, I think, and opening things up to result in a loud note - while it might sound great to you - is often perceived by others as obnoxious, and to me just screams "attention *****."

I hate loud trucks. Diesels sound ok but gas trucks sound like crap. They don't have the engine profile for a great sound.
If it wasnt meant to go fast it shouldn't try sounding like it.

the mustangs sound AMAZING. there is something different about the tubular headers, tune, cam profiles, and the true dual exhaust that gives it a fantastic sound. but the trucks just sound like ***** with a straight pipe. it needs a good muffler on it to give it some tone.

I straight piped mine for a little while when I was working on my exhaust system with a buddy. It sounded meannnn. I drove around for a day like that until I bolted the muffler back on. I liked it for that day but anything past that would get obnoxious. I don't like NASCAR and by no means have heard one in real life, but that was the only thing I can think of that it sounded like haha. I like mine now as it is with just a magnaflow muffler and turned down. You can hear it at the lower speeds but it's mellow on the freeway.
I had a CAI on originally and had to take it off once I did the turn down/resonator delete though because it got too loud again. It's hard finding that perfect sound!
(Oh and if anyone wants a K&N CAI, the plastic one, let me know...I'll be posting it in the for sale section this week)
