Default 13 fx4 remote mod

Hello all, long time reader, first time poster. I have a 13 fx4 ecoboost, and looking to mod my factory remote system. I have ordered a 5 button remote (exact same as the 4 button factory unit) with the fifth button for trunk open, and I was hoping it would be possible to tap into the system in the truck so that it activates solenoids in my tailgate, so I can pop it open remotely. Any thoughts on how/if this will be possible? I have not opened anything in the truck yet to know how the receiver works, and if it has extra outputs or not.

That's an interesting idea, I'm not sure if you'll be able to do it though since no F150 or SuperDuty ever used that remote. Finding the output for the trunk release will be pretty hard if not impossible since it might not exist.

Thanks for the reply! That's what I was thinking, but perhaps they used the same receiver as the other vehicles that used that key. If I can get it to work someday, I plan on then getting a set of flip keys.

Great thread! Messaged a guy who was trying the 5 button key. Want to see if he got it working. If so, should have it solved! Thanks

I'm not real positive but I'm sure there's a solenoid that, when presented with 3 unlock pulses for example, it'll trigger? That might be easier than a 5 button remote.

I know I've seen them somewhere. The 3 pulses can trigger a pulse of its own, in this case itd be to pop the tailgate through a motor or solenoid or whatever.

A pac tr7 module will do just this.

I have the tr7 on the way now, but I still want to find a way to use the 5 button remote. Does anyone know where the main system for the command start/locks is located? Is there a box somewhere? I know where the antenna is, but that won't really help at all, unless it sends pulses through it when the remote is pushed.

Default Tailgate

I am assuming you mean the tailgate on the truck if that is the case there is a kit that easily connects to the lock mechanism in the gate and is wired to the door locks works like a charm about a two hour install

Door locks are typically controlled through the BCM module. The way to activate anything in there is to use Forscan to recode the BCM. You'd probably have to compare the As-Built data from and Expedition and an F150 to figure out what line you'd have to change. This will take a lot of work since the two vehicles have very different options.

The way I understand it he wants the trunk controlled separately from the rest of the locks.
