Default Leaking rear window

Have a 2010 XLT screw. It has the dreaded rear headliner leaking and dripping on the seat issue.

Now, before anyone yells, "Third brake light!". I already checked it and its all bone dry inside.
Besides, i changed it for a new one with the updated gasket about a year ago and i have not had any issues.

This particular leak is coming from the top drivers side corner of the rear window. I peeled back the head liner and there it is.

Im worried of the process and or cost to have this fixed. I don't want my truck getting mold.

Could it be that rivet on the roof??
Should I take it to a glass guy and have them reseal it? Any experiences? Advice??

I am currently dealing with this on mine too. Truck is new to me and just found this out. I think the previous owner who was an older gentleman must have kept it garaged a lot because the headline isn't bad, but since it sits out at work all day with me the first time it rained all day it was wet.

I sealed the third brake like with silicone and that helped but I am still getting a little bit of water in at the passenger corner.

I took it to one glass shop and he thought it was the rivets and just put some rtv over the rivets and sent me on my way. He said the rivets were not factory. Well, I went up to the ford dealer and every used Ford truck looked the same.

Went to another glass place the other day. He wasn't familiar with leaking of the trucks other than the 3rd brake light, but he said it could be possible that it is coming in at the rivets or the seal. He said it would be at least $300 to remove and reseal the back glass. He said it was because of the labor to remove the rear seat and all the trim and put it back. He said the window reseal itself would only take about an hour. He told me if I got the seats out myself he would only charge me $100 to reseal it, so I think I am going to do that, and while they are working on it, check out and seal the rivet holes.

I need to get this taken care of before I have any mold issues too.

Good luck!

Default Leaking rear window

The rivet has in some cases leaked. So not out of the question.
If you feel up to it. A tiny bead of clear 'Phenoseal' around the rubber gasket of the back window, might be worth a try.
I say specifically Phenoseal, because it's strong enough to be used outdoors, but cleans up perfectly with just plain water.
There's always the hose test if you have the headliner down.
I know you don't want to hear it. After a year, that light gasket could've shunk just enough.
My 2005 never leaked. Yet I had to put a cheap smoked light up there and that leaked horribly. When I took it off, I couldn't see any signs of water on the sheet metal, but it definitely was leaking. Just a personal experience with that light.

It's usually the third brake light that leaks.

I checked the third brake light, like I mentioned in my post. It is bone dry.

I did the hose test and its leaking where I said it was leaking in the original post.

Although this issue is super common, finding info online for is hard because stuff about the third brake light comes up instead.

Refer to OP. Any ideas? Has anyone had a solution?

I am currently in the experimental phase as you. I have siliconed both top trim pieces and going to do the water test tonight. Trying to isolate the rivets or rear seal but I suspect from other threads I have read it is most likely the rear seal since I have isolated the 3rd brake light.

I read that the nuts that hold the window just behind the lip of the headliner come loose. I read that they should be inspected and tightened if need be. Im going to try that.

Someone did a write up on removing the back window and resealing it a while back. It didn't look to hard to do.

Post if that helps. I did my water test last night after sealing off my trim pieces on the top of the cab and still got water in the passenger corner, so I am thinking if I can get the seat out, I might just have them re do the seal. More rain in the forecast this week.

Good luck!

Ok so I did the soapy water and air compressor test. The window is leaking and not the third light or the rivet. Its a tiny half inch section on the top corner (drivers side) of the rear window.

Im going to try window silicone sealer on my own from the outside. I hope this works. Ill advise of my findings.

I solved my freaking wheel hop issue on the cheap. Surly I can solve this.
