Late Model STX stereo change?
I have a 2014 STX Sport with the standard SYNC setup, but was wondering if anyone ever changed their stereo and went to a GPS screen stereo like a Pioneer, etc.? I just don't want to:
1) Lose my SYNC services
2) Lose my steering wheel functionality
3) Lose my telephone microphone and have to go to an aftermarket microphone. That addition is always so hokey / butt ugly
What I hope to gain is:
1) A visual depiction of my driving directions on a 6" screen.
2) The ability to watch a DVD when I am in park
3) A camera that shows on the screen when I am in reverse

Everything can be accomplished using Kenwood, Alpine or Pioneer head units and then using a maistro harness. If you go look in the stereo section on here under general topics you'll see a ton about them.
Essentially the head unit is normal and the cable is what is special in that it talks to the canbus system to retain sync, steering wheel controls, etc.
I ditched synce as it was cool at first but a novelty later, the Kenwood did everything I needed and the added mic disappears where I put it, you can't see it.
The hard part is that most head units with built in Nav have all the other features like BT and voice dialing etc so it would be pretty expensive to buy that, keep sync and not use 75% of the features you paid for.
You could look at a cheaper head unit that uses your cell phone and mirrors to the head unit for Nav.

My 2014 4x4 Lariat with the Sony Navigation, traffic, etc. already does those things.
Mine came with the tail gate Camera.
I would think changing your system would cost a bundle of Washingtons?

Aftermarket will have those same things and more especially with the maistro cable, it will integrate into OBD2 and will give engine info and actual tire pressure etc.

True but if you don't have tablet then you need one and it needs to be on contract unless using phone as hotspot and even then there are data limits so in the long run it may cost more. Then you have to buy or fab a kit to fit the tablet unless you want it to just look like poo.
