Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but will this kit work on a truck with the 6 CD changer? Doesn't appear to have a subwoofer but I'd love to add it. Is it as simple as finding the unused harness on the truck or would you have to run wiring to make it work?

TIA

Unless you have the Sony system, which sounds like you don't, the thread is not related to you application.
BUT.... Contact Beau at Rogel Ford (contact info in the intro of the thread) and he can get you fixed up with a complete power stage kit for your truck.
So you will have to follow the install instructions given by him when you place your order. (He'll email those instructions when you place the order & the install is different than shown in this thread.
He'll still get you fixed up & the you'll love this great, affordable upgrade!

Just to clarify, you just upgraded to the Kicker Sub correct? Are you running the factory amp to power the new sub or did you get a new amp for the sub?

Yes, I upgraded to the Kicker Sub woofer, and removed my Sony sub.

Keep in mind... BOTH the Sony sub, AND the Kicker sub have their very own amp attached to their own sub box. Both subwoofers are "powered" units.
When you ask about the "factory amp", I believe many (including yourself), think there is "another amp" somewhere to power the sub.
But the amp for the Sony sub is attached to the Sony sub...and the Kicker sub ALSO has it's very own amp also attached to the Kicker sub unit.

The difference is: The Sony amp that powers their sub is less than 100W (80W I believe someone else in another thread stated)....and the Kicker amp that comes with the Kicker sub is 200W... which is a huge difference.
Don't be mislead about Sony saying their system is 700W as it says on their sub.... It is far from it!
The Kicker sub kicks 5X as much as the Sony sub.

Edit:
Below is a pic of the SuperCrew KICKER sub unit (it's used in BOTH the Powerstage & Substage kit) ...and you can see the attached amp ("Arrow").
(The Sony also has their amp, but it is inside the enclosure, so it just is not visible unless you take the box apart)

Lethal,

Got my sub in the mail today and will install this evening. I was looking at the wire harness and just wanted to know where you put your ground wire? Did you just find a bolt that was on the frame and sand it down to bare metal or is there a specific location for it?

Edit:
I found the pic & forgot to post it...
The ground wire runs with the positive wire from the Kicker harness, but it ends right there at the PASS kick panel area.
So I simply just drilled a hole, and ran a screw into an easy open area to bolt it down. All good!
There are other OEM screws all around this area that may be a little harder to get at, but for me this just seemed easier & logical to me at that time with a new, fresh ground bolt.

Got to ask why the full kit with the DSP will not work, is it a harness issue? No workaround?

I'm curious, Can you use the input from the sony sub setup on the kicker? or do you have to tap in to the speakers somewhere else, I thought I read somewhere that you could, but I didn't save it so I'm not sure.

The wiring harness that goes from the DSP to the back of the radio will not work in the MFT touchscreen radios.
I haven't (nor had the need to) look at the back of my radio... But my sons truck which is an XLT & base radio...I did the full power stage kit and had his dash apart and the wiring harness is built specific for those radios, not the MFT radios.

I don't know about all that.
But I do know that the plug from the Sony sub will not plug into the Kicker sub.
But when you get your kit, it comes with the necessary wiring harness, so it's actually a simple install.
I think what you may be thinking (at least I also did at first) is: why not simply plug/tap into the existing wiring harness that's already there for the Sony sub to begin with?
But if you remember, they ALL advertise to say that it's not meant to work with Sony systems.
So ... I think a couple things here (& just my thoughts why)...
Kicker felt that: since it was already a decent system, they NEVER took the time or research for the fitment to replace the Sony (just as I & many other already have? But yet it bolts into the exact locations!! ???
And possibly the signal that signals the Sony sub is not adequate enough for the Kicker?? (Though we are simply tapping into the rear speaker wires for the signal).
I think someone mentioned in another thread a while ago, there are a difference in signals in the Front vs Rear speaker wires???
Don't really know.... But I do know that this Kicker sub is much much better thump than the Sony sub.
= more smiles per mile!
